Can anyone shed any light on why they tuck their tracksuit bottoms into their socks? I asked a Young Person (TM) and received a sequence of grunts which, apparently, translates as "I 'unno. They just do. Can I have an XBox 360 for Christmas?". Other Young People were similarly noncommittal.

The thing is, I'm not entirely sure that they're aware that they look like they're wearing particularly long plus fours...

Maybe its something to do with the fact that they get cold legs if they don't while hanging round on street corners waiting for the local cruise?

Don't seem to do it round here yet...you sure you aren't just imagining it?

Well I would imagine that after a hearty morning spent shop lifting they are then well prepared for an afternoon on the grouse moor in their Plus 4's?

Before long I would think Kappa will be brining out a Harris Tweed version of its ever popular trackie bottoms for just this sort of thing?

Top doffing what!

Because its fashionable to them?

It seems all kids dress alike these days, regardless of background. When i was a kid, we all wore shellsuits/tracksuits for a time (), just as bad as this lot really.

Surely ist so that after a heavy morning's shoplifting their spoils don't fall out of the bottom of their trousers. Bit like PoWs with sand.

It is to show off their curfew tags.

Having to wear an electronically monitored curfew tag is a mark of great esteem amongst young scroats.

Being seen out with one during hours of darkness gives far greater kudos because it shows that the wearer is in breach of the terms of the curfew order and is even more of a rebel.

The above explanation was advanced by one of my juvenile criminal clients......

Cheers
