To be safe it is generally thought wise to have the best tread on the rear. S03s are usually in peoples top three preferences and Avons are not. I'd fit S03s or F1 GS-D3s on the rear.

The general consensus is that Avons aren't good. The grip in the dry is questionable and in the wet is dangerous... if you want to drive in confidence buy SO3s or Eagle F1s (well that's what everyone says). (Unless you know how to cope with oversteer and are always paying attention when you're driving )

Personally I have Avons cos they're cheap and last longer (3 trackdays on a set and still well within legal limits, and that's trying to powerslide or drift every corner ) (they're a harder compound so grip less but wear more slowly)

Just replaced rear 16" Avons with Toyos (245/45/16/Z)- much much better.

Avon made their name making tyres for cars that are both powerful and heavy (in the same car) like Bentleys and real Astons. Given that TVRs are only half this weight I think that TVRs simply don't generate enough downforce to ever make the tyres work properly.
