Having had both cars and the bike stolen at the weekend (see sticky) I find myself left in a vehicular limbo. We need at least one car but I know that any possible payout will be weeks away.
Do I a) hire a car indefinitely, b) buy a cheap runaround for a thousand pounds or so until the insurance is finalised or c) bite the bullet and finance a car with the intention of paying of the finance upon payout?

Can't you get a courtesy car on insurance?

Sadly not. At some stage I must have ticked the 'no' box.

Jsut read the second page of your sticky. Sorry to hear about it mate. Looks like the insurance company are no better than the bs that nicked it all.

I'd go with LA's suggestion. A £500 runabout won't depreciate much...

Buy a cheap runabout - choose wisely and it will keep it's value and you can sell it again for the same amount.

Good plan.

Another option would be to head off to your nearest car auction - and since its only temporary and you won't be keeping it - buy whatever is the biggest bargain there on the day. Might even be able to sell it on at a profit!

Was it Fifth Gear that was finding you could get newish petrol 4x4s for next to no money - no-one wants 'em since the price of petrol shot up. If one was cheap enough you'd be getting a decent motor. Sure you'd still be selling on a "bargain" but if you pay little enough to start with...

Mmm- nice idea. The problem Ive always had with the idea of an auction is that I have the mechanical know-how of a seven year old girl. As a result I would be paranoid that there was a good reason I was appearing to 'win' an auction.
