You know Charlie, Ewan's pal from The Long Way Round.

I was flicking round the channels and caught a bit of him chatting about bikes at a bike show. I though he was quite good and obviously likes bike. Anyone seen it?

If it's the bit i saw last night..It was on 5th gear.
Quite nice to have a sensible view on bikes, as opposed to Clarkson's usual vitriol.

Read the book (Long Way Round), both Charlie and Ewan are proper, been into bikes from being kids, got bollocked by their parents/local plod, bikers.

The book's worth the read especially if you enjoyed the program.

Agreed - Charlies definitely the better rider however.

One thing I found odd was that when Ewan bought his 748 it was during the filming of Star Wars and iirc he said that he had to ask for an advance in order to pay for it.

I would have thought Ewan would have had a few bob knocking about for a bike

The Duke was a gift from George Lucas. He gave the Duke to Charlie and bought an MV Agusta F4 which, is now sold. I think he uses a Bandit for carving through London. When filming in Oz on Moulin Rouge he had to have permission from the director (Baz someone-or-other) to use a CBR600 everyday.

Both Ewan and Charlie would be a great accompaniment to a summer breakfast run!! Totally passionate about riding.

Indeed, but only because George heard about Ewan having to go cap in hand for an advance. Trainspotting obviusly didn't make that much money then however, I doubt he has to do that any more.

I suppose when you look at his career since Trainspotting, he'd done low budget (some UK some US) films, which then promoted him into bigger league acting roles. And eventually the Star Wars gig. After that I should think he hasn't worried too much about finding the cash to buy a new bike

I have just finished watching the ten episode version of "Long Way Round". I think the added footage has brought the series much closer to the book.
