Napster used to be the big pne now they charge, my brother uses winMX, just wondering if there were any that you lot recommend ? ease of use etc.

Just got my first mp3 player and want to fill it up.

I used WinMX, Warez and LimeWire - find LimeWire easiest to use.

Whatever you do, don't use Kazaa - it's crap!

Buy it you cheapskate!

There's a russian site called mp3.ru or something where you can get them for about $.10 a track! Hardly worth the inevitable spyware and viruses from winMX at that price.

Legally there isnt any way of obtaining "Free" music. Any P2P network you use to download free music is going to be pirated material and the lawsuits against individuals for that are starting to fly en-masse.

Have you copied your CD collection over to it yet?
Copied your mates CD collection over to it yet?

Those are both the best starting points.

Most music services charge by the track, I've heard good things about allofmp3.com on both price and service (they are cheap and you get whatever format you fancy).

Edited to add that allofmp3.com is IIRC perhaps the russian site the earlier post was referring to?

I've used WinMX for years and haven't had any problems. Having said that, my computer scans itself for spyware and removes any offending cookies/files etc..

I had Winmx , emule , etc... removed them all from my pc.
Sharing music online without paying is illegal , and you might think you can get away with it till you get a knock on your door one day.

These record companies are launching a crack down every day and they are aware of these sites , and they will legally force the service provider to reveal your address and details.

I heard in the news today that they are intensifying the campaign so they don't lose out in the build up to xmas.

Best to join a site legit or better still buy or copy a cd from a friend.Mp3 quality leaves a lot to be desired but that's just me being fussy.

How can the authorities prove it was you who was downloading mp3's if they have an IP address, this is made even more complicated by people have Wifi & NAT access points. Half my street uses unsecured wifi connections, should be no problem jumping on their networks to download something dodgy

I don't download music but still had an e-mail from my ISP to the effect that they could see what you were doing and would pass the info on if asked.

A friend of mine has downloaded most of the internet using LimeWire and he's still free...!

Mind you, it's also illegal to drive at 31mph in a 30 limit. They can't jail us all.

Oh indeed, and you have a much less chance of getting caught downloading a few tunes than you would exceeding the 30 limit by such a tiny amount.

But if there was a 10K fine for driving at 31, I'd do 25...

Don't give them ideas! I think I'd transfer all my worldy possessions to my cat, then drive as usual - once you have no money and they can't fine you, they lose interest. Witness travellers.

You are responsible for securing it so you'd still get done for being an ignorant moron I suppose.

Sort of like you have to take a speed camera fine unless you can prove someone else was doing it.

What about free MP3s as in one that are not commercial music. MP3.com used to have a lot of free non commerical music from all sorts of genres available, some of it was quite good (a lot was crap as well) They seem to have only free streaming now though (I haven't spent much time looking around though
