I have been really badly dumped by my girlfriend of 8 years. Sorry this stuff is not usual content.

She went of to work in America with a colleague and she has ran off with him. She is back in the UK now and has shacked up with the b*stard, not far from where we lived together.

It is TOTALLY out of character for her as he is married, and she always said she would never leave me or break up a home.

Has anyone had a similar experience ?? Comments much appreciated

No similar experiences, but just thought I'd be the first to offer sympathy to a fellow PHer.

I know it doesn't help too much at the moment, but given she has done this you are probably better off without. Just watchout as you cut all the financial tangles.

sorry to hear about it

any clues as to why she left you? also were there any indications before she went to america to suggest she was getting perhaps bored of the relationship?

at least you can learn something from the experience :/

A few years ago I was very happily engaged to a girl who I spent almost every waking moment with. We'd been together seven years and I thought I knew her inside out. She left me, very suddenly and very traumatically, for another woman!

Took me quite some time to get over that, but I did and I'm now living with an absolutely gorgeous girl who is superior in every way. What seemed like a disaster proved to be a lucky escape. And so shall it be for you - it may seem inconceivable at the moment, but out there in your not too distant future there really is another fish in the sea.

I fully agree, I was with someone for 5 years, when he ended it out of the blue, but not too soon after I found that other 'fish' in that sea, and I am far happier and feel that I did indeed have a very lucky escape from other one.

So don't despair it will all turn out in the end.

Very similar experience. Girlfriend and latter wife, decided to go a couple of years back, and mysteriously she moved in with someone I used to think was a friend, but she assured me it was just a coincidence. Now she lives in France, oh and my divorce completes in about 4 weeks.

So alas my friend it happens, it is not good and you feel like sh!t for a while, and no matter how many times people tell you it will get better, you will not believe them.

BUT, it does get better and you met new people and findout new things about yourself that you may not have know before. For starters the first think I did when my ex left was buy a TVR, because I wanted to and no one could say no, but I also went sailing, parachuting, moutain climbing, and a bunch of other stuff.

I found out I quite likes the freedom, and in the process I met another girl, who I love and live with.

So I hope you can work it out, but if you cannot, life can be more fun than you may think at the moment.

David

My best mate was recently in a similar position – really cut up about losing his girl, and on the phone to me every ten minutes for about a month.

And then he remembered why other girls are so attractive.

Since when he's been Mungoing around London like the best of 'em. He's currently got three girls on the go, and couldn't be happier. One of them is married. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, eh.

"Best way to get over someone is to get UNDER someone" Couldn't be truer.

Must be something going round - My girlfriend of seven years has just given me the "I don't want to be with you anymore." Sometimes life really is a b*tch.

You wont believe us, but you will get over it. What I've learned is that EVERY woman has the potential to be a complete psycho...and usually does, until you find one that isnt one all the time.

Find the wife of this husband ...and im not joking

Sorry to hear that Simon, similar thing happened to me last year. Except I was the one who went to work in the US, she virtually lived there with me at first.

My company payed her expences for her to fly to and from the UK, eventually she had to return for a longer and longer periods of time as she had uni commitments.

I very soon after returned perminantly and it broke down very soon after, with no reason and surprise surprise she went through a seemless transition to the new victim.

I hate to say it but you can never really trust them, like you it was totally out of character for my ex and everyone who knew her was shocked, even her friends!

In short, don't contact her, at all. Try to avoid bumping into her, go out with the boys and have some fun. It is really hard at first, just concentrate on getting your head together. Don't just get drunk and bore your friends with talking about her. It makes things worse.

I was sure I would never meet anyone as important to me again, but 8 months later I did. A great improvement on the last model too, this one has all the optional extras

I have a tip too, every night you go out. Set yourself and your single friends the task of at least getting one young ladies telephone number, a harmless game. Even if you never call them it feels fantastic!

I soon found out how cruel women can be. Many admitted they had boyfriends, but more than likely still willing to give me there number......

Happened a couple of times to me - bird went off with some bloke I thought was a mate (was actually engaged the second time). It's gutting at the time, but time, and a few beers with some mates will sort it out.

Keep yourself busy with some hobby - my Mini project has kept me busy and given me something to do other than work or drink, and is worth it's weight in fool's gold

It's sad that she didn't have the guts to be honest with you. Not many people do though, it's all too easy to avoid the truth.

It's also all too easy to say "you will get over it" the pain can last years, the memory, a lifetime. I think it's actually best to face up to everything, and not just pretend you are Ok when in fact you are not. Some of the questions that are in your head will never be answered. You will move on without even realising you have moved on at all.

Time does heal though, it's just that everyone heals at a different rate of knots.

You are better off without someone who you can't trust. Trouble is you can't really trust anyone. I know people who have been seemingly happy for years and one of them has just buggered off, stunning everyone who knows them. Mostly, they have been secretly unhappy for years, but in their own minds they have been papering over the cracks. That's life. For some reason it's not meant to be fair.....

Hope it works out for you mate

Sad story.

Was in a similar situation a few years ago. Split up with girlfriend only to find that a couple of weeks later she was shacked up with an old boyfriend. Was absolutely distraught for a full six months before I decided to look after myself.

After I regained my perspective on things I realised that I was by myself and she was with some pudgy git who left school at 16 to join the Navy. Having seen a photo of her recently (fat & frumpy), I did have to laugh.

anyone heard of 7 year itch? its sometimes 6 - 8 years, but the symptoms are the same, basically girls change there views, seen it dozens of times myself, and happened to me too.
must be a hormone thing. if your lucky to spot and alter to the change, its fine, otherwise they tend to get bored and there off.

dont worry about it mate, theres ALWAYS someone better, and you will wonder what you ever saw in her.
