The contrived double-entendre (Oooh Matron! and all that) of this relatively new snack brand proper pisses me off every time I see it with its bloody great cardboard promotional things in the way of the tills.

It's like they thought of the name to be able to make this deeply unfunny cliche of an ad:
www.rushes.co.uk/quicktime/nobbys_nuts_qt.htm

It smacks of young "wise guys" in advertising who lack the perspective and acumen to be able to construct a proper ad. The Nobby's Nuts brand is as dumbed down as the educations of the berks who thought of it. Good advertising causes you to construct the message in your mind, remember it and act on it. Noddy hollering spells out the message and it's as sad as it's patronising.

I can hear the pitch..."Thought-provoking advertising is passe and doesn't work. Today you have to grab the viewer and ram the message down their throat".

Bullshit. Look at Guinness' reverse evolution. Epic. Or even the new Clio ad for that matter (odd that they emphasise "French car" when French car = shit car in England ...although the Championship winning F1 car was "French Car, British Designer". See, it made me think.

Wouldn't be seen dead eating "Nobbys Nuts" and well-stocked shelves suggest I might not be alone. Anyone on here switched from Walkers to Nobbys?

Nope, and nor will I as long as the advertisers associate them with another mans genitals.

Bring back Mary Whitehouse.

SERIOUSLY!

Advertising is nearly at rock bottom.

They have no imagination beyond SEX and making fun of males.

Must include the obligatory 'ethnic minority' of course.

Of course, its just a s;ightly humourous name, and maybe it should just be taken at that? Its like an episode of Grumpy old men in here sometimes.

Have to say, I can't stand the Guinness ads and any of that overly self-conscious art-wank advertising.

British advertising is ad for ad, the best in the world. You should see some of the sexist, bravado-ridden, hacknied, teary-eyed sentimentalist sterotypical crap that passes for advertising over here. Its sub-radio ad standard.

Better boycott Walkers then. Nobby's = Walkers = Pepsico

Haven't Nobby's Nut's been around for years though? I think they're from Australia and I've seen John Cleese doing an advert for them from the late 70's.

D'you know I was just about to say the same thing.

FYI Pepsico own

Nobby's Nuts UK
Walkers
Quaker Oats
Tropicana
Doritos
Snack A Jacks
Pepsi (obviously)

and various other snacky things.

As a prisoner locked up in the marketing world, I too detest the Norwich Union campaign. I absolutely hate the Corrie Cadbury break bumpers (especially the terribly false laugh the chinese woman has when her boyfriend switches on the stereo rather than the telly).

My biggest problem is the Cup-A-Soup ad with the furry arms. What drug was the marketing agency on when they came up with that?

is it just me, or is the Renault advert not as smart as it seems, and that guy comes across being really smug - in fact they both are - when she say "French car company" i'm half expecting him to say "oh, erm, well, we've flogged off all ours..."

AA car loans with 'Bev' and 'Kev' is pure evil, get aspiring working/middle-class wannabes into more debt.

and that ad for the Vauxhall Meriva 'we had 5 in the back' is getting on a bit as well.

[Nobbys Nuts in Bacon flavour is pure genius]

i try not to watch the TV ones - but the radio ones are really hard to avoid - you are a captive audience in your car. as for cinema trailers, they are compulsive viewing - it's not as though you can get up and leave till they finish

When I see the ad I just think boring crapbox car, whether french, english or hungarian it's still just a yawn inducing shopping trolley.

At least that strangely alluring french babe makes the 30 seconds slightly more bearable

The fact that we are discussing it means that the Nobby's Nuts ad campaign has worked.

My favourite adverts are the ones where you remember the ad, but not what it's for - as it means that the ponytailed coke-addicted Nathan Barley meeja-type who dribbled out this particular flavour of w@nk has totally and utterly failed and hopefully, as a result, lost his job.

Oh The old Nicole was good, but with this they are really spoiling us!

Oli.

(P.S. Apologies - that last bit was meant to be a take off of an ancient Ferrero Rocher ad. But it failed.)

Actually, the "nibble nobby's nuts" tag line has been around since my childhood in Australia, although back in those days it was more subtle than the ads over here, with (reasonably) clever ads and not as much a reliance on the innuendo aspect of it. The current Nobby/Noddy ads are truly shite, it's true. But I'm glad to see an Australian product coming over here and making itself noticed.

The real shame is that KP no longer seems to make the coated nuts I used to love. And now Nobby's sell them in very small packs... In the wrong flavours...

The sheer pleasure of a huge bag of salt and vinegar coated crispy nuts... mmmmmmm but forever denied until they get their finger out and start making them again!
