There have been a number of exercise/weights related threads recently and I was wondering of those people that partake what they can bench press.

Apparently for men a good target to aim for would be your bodyweight - not sure whether this would be for 1 rep or for a set of say 8 reps.

I'm 6 foot and weigh 85kgs and can bench 120kgs for 2 reps.

So, over to the floor then...

I'm 6 foot, 88 kg and I do 3 sets of 10 reps at 75kg.

If I'm just doing one or two reps at silly weights I have been known to do 115kg.

Get better figures on the leg press - 155kg

I weigh about 120kgs and bench press 175kgs in three reps of eight. I think I could bench press a fair bit more as a maximum weight, but it seems a bit pointless just to load up a bar for a one-off lift for the sake of it.

When I used to go to the gym regularly I got up to 50kg. Not too many reps though! Pretty much my body weight though!

6'1 & 17 stone, currently 1 rep max is about 110kg. When I was taking it seriously could do 3@140kg. As soon as I stopped training properly it went down quite quickly. I've always been reasonably happy with my bench, but can't lift any decent weight above my head for some reason.

that's impressive!

I found 1RM to be quite useful to give a guide as to what to aim to set for reps. TBH I much preferred squats to bench anyway as there was no chance of getting an eyeful if my spotter was wearing shorts

Blimey, makes me feel huge being 98kgs.
On topic though I used to be able to bench around 120. Not done it for quite a few years though so probably a lot less now.

I only weigh 70kg, bench press 70kg for around 3 sets of 10 reps.
Was working up to the magic 100kg when I had a training partner, bit dangerous on your own.

I've always thought you need to be bench pressing at least your bodyweight to make any serious gains.

I bench 80kgs for 3 sets of 15, but I am trying to lose mass rather than build so it is more of a toning weight.

I notice someone mentioned the leg press--I normally do 200kgs for 2 sets of 10 as my legs are pretty large

Mind you they carry enough weight on a regular basis

I weigh 64 kg , best benchpress is 96kg free weight , about 60% above my body weight. If you train regularly I think your "warm up" high-rep weight should be around body weight. (haven't done serious training for a while ... would struggle with that right now )

Bench-pressing is for wimps! Press-ups are the thing. I can do 100 before my arms drop off.

I'm 5'9" and can bench press 12.5kgs. The strain makes me need to go and have a nice cup of herbal tea and some Ryvita after 6 reps, though.

When I was 21, I did 500 press-ups in one go (karate club comp).

Bravo to Lois- that's a hell of a weight for a petit lady.

Petit? Have you seen the pecs on it?

sorry Lois
