Alot of people seem to think so, but isn't it just an expensive alternative to pine?

Good solid mahogany is the most beautiful wood there is in my eyes

Cheap red mahogany has its place too, in skips mostly...

Personally I prefer the look of a nice young blonde ash. There's something very vibrant and refreshing about it.

It is a nice wood, but it depends also on your ethical standpoint - mahogany tends to come from old-growth tropical forests, so it's continuint use is contributing to the destruction of the rainforests. Pine grows much faster and will probably come from managed timber farms in scandinavia.

Depends if you're buying it for for life or you are going to try out different cheaper woods when offered on a plate.

See nothing but the same old mahogany, that would be boring, a bit of variety is needed, some mahogany, some oak, and even on occaision a bit of rough pine ( though not the really cheap stuff )

Sorry I was going to make some feeble joke about everything being fine if you've got wood - but couldn't be bothered.
