996 stereo question
Discussion
I have a 2000 996 TT German import and the stereo(part of sat nav) distorts at very low volume.
A local ICE shop said it had the speaker upgrade fitted but didn't have an amp in the boot-meaning just the head unit powering the speakers-hence the poor quality.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Shall I fit the amp suggested by the ICE man at £500 fitted or should I by the Harman amp (the upgrade that wasn't done from new)from Porsche for £250 and have that fitted.
Also is the speaker kit any good or will I still end up with poor sound with the amp upgrade.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have the "regular" stereo - but with the door speakers (they're not standard!).
I have the "Porsche Sound Pack". On a Boxster S this is: Door Speakers and an amp in the boot.
Its....ok.
Porsche Stereos are fairly crap to be honest...if you're into car hifi. Its adequate for my needs, though.
Given you have a 2000 car which does NOT have MOST you should be able to fit anything you wanted. If you go looking at Becker kit you'll find it exactly matches your existing headunit.
If I were you I'd consider the amp.
