Hi everyone.

I'm sure this has been posted before, but....

Is this a legal limit yet given that there are no signs - just 50 written on the road itself?

Thanks
Kev

P.S. Not that I think it will change the unbelievably bad lane discipline!!

No. There's nothing in the highway code about circles written on the road.

Nor is there anything about red tarmac spread across straight roads, yellow ridged painted lines at decreasing intervals, red tarmac gaudily splashed around white hatchings, and all the other eco-warrier warpaint that the local councils now seem to think is essential to prove to the voters that they think about the children.

Spoke to a POliceman about this. The road is being slowed down with speed reduction, its just that the painting takes a while and once the new limit markers are up, that will be the new limit.

They have had 2 fatals on this road in 12 months, so have to do something.

Chaps,

This has been covered and explained a few months back, see my last post here:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=10&t=201319

Those numbers within the white circles are not legally binding, so carry as normal (for now).

1) Something must be done.
2) Here's something.
3) Let's do it.

Rather than find out why there have been fatals and fix that.

Maybe someone was going too quickly. You know, there are times when this actually occurs.

I thought one of those was a suicide?

Yup, suicide note in the glove box and everything. The driver was in debt (only £8k though) and had just been turned down for a loan at a bank in Wickham (bet they feel bad now!). The most recent fatality was well after the speed limit order was raised. I'm not 100% sure but a car was broken down and facing the wrong way in the outside lane, hit by a van coming the other way. If the van was speeding then it was only because there was a speed camera in the 40 limit about 1/2 mile earlier. The crash was well outside the cameras "protection zone" so it won't show up on the stats.
