Maserati 4200GT Cambio power upgrade question.
Discussion
Not that I'm one to doubt these things (I am) but an acquaintance of mine has purchased a 4200GT Cambiocorsa which as I understand it produces a healthy stock 390bhp. A claim of 450bhp has been advanced and now a figure even greater. So tell me learned Maserati gurus, is this a yank of my chain? I certainly can't find anything on the web about this miracle mod.
"the Meridien Modena mod/ chip switch, as well as opening the exhaust valve, lowering the suspension & "tweaking" electricals, boosts bhp by 60 + gee-gees. I have a full booklet, modification handbook, amended Maserati warranty and other papers in my handbook confirming mod to the ECU - which has a red caution sticker affixed. Sorry she has 540 / 560 bhp under bonnet under full power. I think that you'll find a lot of Maserati owners paid the £1,300.00 requested by Modena to do this to the already potent motor"
So....do tell.

hmmm. 3200 coudl be uprated like this (with larger intercoolers etc) by cranking up the boost pressure on the turbos. Cost of doing that though to get 500bhp would have been in the 10k region.
Getting a 100+bhp raise out of a NA engine purely from engine management seems highly dubious to me. And managing that kind of gain for a mere 2k is frankly horsesh*t I would bet
The only upgrades I've seen for the 4200 raise bhp by around 10-30bhp - and thats usually due to the addition of a sports exhaust rather than mucking about with the ecu.
I'm sure the 4200 owners on here can be more definitive though - at first sight however I'd lay good money that your aquaintance is talking boll*cks...

Lot of talk about this sort of thing on Maseratiforum.net using an ECU from Eurotek. http://store.yahoo.com/nonturbo/euforyomaco.html
I go along with mr_tony's opinion thank you very much!

Thanks for that, he's conceded the power claim was rather an exaggeration (king of understatement) whilst pointing to a chip from DMS Automotive as being the source of whatever extra ebullience the car may possess. As a convicted chain-yanker, some bluffs cannot go unchallenged and it's not as if it was lacking in the power department to begin with. LOL. I suppose it's a bit like starting your own rumour knowing that eventually the claim will be cemented in conversations and become a "fact" over time.
