Im sure I heard it was illegal to have blue lights on your vehicle.

If that were true, how do the thousands of boyracer types get away with it.

Or am I being stupid, forgetting that blue lights are a performance mod, giving them the necessary power to escape the BIB

Seen from a different point of view, are you saying that the government have nationalised blue light and they now have the monopoly? What next, dark suits?

Not sure what sort of blue lights you are talking about, will assume you mean the blue LEDS in washer jets and included within front light assemblies.

In this case only illegal if they flash and you are not one of the permitted emergency vehicles.

Because they don't flash and don't shine to the rear of the vehicle hence not illegal.

However they are illegal imo if you replace the position lights or dipped headlamps with lights which are blue blue as opposed to the blue tinge bulbs you can get in such places frequented by the Lax power merchants.

Think of it this way, by seeing the blue leds you know they are richard heads and are therefore prepared for the demonstration of how not to drive.

The blue headlight lens covers which were very fashionable with bikers are a total especially the red and magenta versions.

It is also illegal to have a light which might not actually work but is designed to look like a emergency vehicle beacon etc.

I find them very useful. They say "I'm a complete tt, so watch out as I'm probably going to do some really stupid very very soon".

Cheers FIF, that explains it

Saw some yoofs gathered around maccy D's not long ago, one chap had wing mirrors with lights inside, which all flashed (4 colours)... looked like a mobile disco. Other than him, the rest of the blue light brigade must be legal. A bad thing Im sure

In that case, what about the ones underneath the car that light up the road underneath in blue? You can see those from all round the car.

The question is Stoggie (Northern term for a Pidgeon)can the blue light be seen to the rear?

Offence to use on a road a vehicle readily capable of showing a light other than red to the rear or showing a red light to the front. (With exceptions in which Chav is not mentioned)

Is it an offence to be capable, or actually to display?

If the car has blue lights - fitted beneath the front radiator grille, imagine - but we didn't turn them on, isn't that ok?

If it is fitted and wired up and brought into operation by switch then does it fall within what the law states:

No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than red (exceptions)????

Yes?

Surely its the front when the white light is on? Mind you, your headlights are then at the rear ...

If I found myself driving in the vicinity of a car with a strange blue glow on the road underneath it would I a) check speed and watch speedo like a hawk, or b)keep careful watch on car with strange blue glow, wheel spinners and other bling in order to protect my NCB?

Think b) would be my choice.

Ahh... BMW ahead of the game again then: Those orange lights at the rear, commonly known as "indicators", are just for show.... unless you're nipping into the newsagents for a paper, then you have to use the ones at the front as well. When all four are used they are called "warden attraction lights"

Saw an interesting one the other day. Very bright red LED's in the studs used to hold the numberplate on. Made it very hard to read the numberplate. Is that illegal? Red light to the rear = ok....

I thought anything that made your numberplate hard to read (such as fancy fonts, mud etc.) was illegal?

The term as DVD said is 'vehicle fitted' however amber lights can be used by anyone & thats what we used to be Ghostbusters on the Britballrun, it matched the car better aswell! (pity they kept blowing the bloody fuse)

Yeah I know... IIRC the back of the car remains the rear, even when you are reversing.

Going opposite way this evening near Hollingworth Lake, Smithybridge, Lancs, boy racer in blue Nova with flashing blue lights in headlights, bass so loud even with my windows up made car vibrate.

No police on roads definately leading to motoring anarchy.
