seized BMW engine

A friend of mine has got a problem but as I know zilch about bikes I need some advice
He paid 6k for a BMW bike about a month ago with a 3 month warranty. the dealer also serviced the bike before he took delivery.
The Bike broke down yesterday with a seized engine apparently due to a total lack of oil in the engine!
The dealer says because he did not check the engine oil DAILY, they are not going to replace the engine under warranty.
My questions are
1, is it normal to check a bikes engine oil everyday?
2. how come the oil pressure light did not come on at any stage ?
3 as he has been quoted 2k for a replacement engine, could he get a second hand one from a breaker and save money?
I am sorry I don't know the model of the bike but its a 1100 engine

Assuming the Bike has not got any oil leaks and is within the warranty period I would still look to the dealer and BMW to finance the new engine. If it hasn't done many miles then it could be reasonably stated that it shouldn't of used any oil, or at least not enough to mean the oil level is below the minumum.
I think the rule is never take the first answer and be persistent if you are sure they are responsible, try citizens advice or someone like them for advice.

How the hell did it lose all of its oil? Loose sump plug? Knackered piston rings?

Apparently its a R1150GS and the oil light didn't come on because the was still 1/2 litre of oil left in it, or so the garage are saying. It seems to have burnt all the rest of the oil in 3000 miles, which suggests to me something very sick with the engine, surely this level of consumtion cannot be normal??
If it was a BMW dealer then I'm not surprised at the moment.
Some bikes use oil, my mate has a 1200GS I'll ask him if he uses any.
If it's the same though, there is a sight glass that you need to check when the engine has been off for some time. As soon as you start it the oil level dissappears below the sight glass and you think there is none there.
I'm surprised at daily checks, I check mine maybe once a month but it hasn't used a drop in 3500 miles so I'm maybe getting a bit lax about that.
Keep hassling the dealer, fit for purpose and all that. I would be surprised if the light wouldn't come on with only a 1/2 litre left.

He might struggle with this one, because its a dealer warranty not a factory one.

Colating information from onther ownered of the same bike would be very handy, if you could show that other bike do not use oil to the same extent then you could argue that there was something more fundementally wrong with your bike and the oil starvation was caused by this, not the oil being left unchecked.
It might take a fair bit of work, possably need to get a lawyer involved too.
As has been indicated in moderen engines oil consumption really should not be an issue. 1l every 1000miles would seem a lot to me, but i be the hendbook suggess than might be normal.
I have a golf tdi with 190,000 miles and i put in about 1 litre every 5000miles!!
