ACT launches exhausts for Cerbies

TVR specialist sees performance improvements

ACT is launching a new set of performance-improving Cerbera V8 manifolds.

The TVR induction and exhaust specialist said that the pipes have been designed to a new layout with near as possible to equal length primary pipes. "Aside from looking good it helps produce more torque throughout the rev range", said the company. They are built in sections to aid the fitting process -- it allows them to be fitted without moving the engine, according to ACT.

Material

  • 316 annealed stainless tube
  • 38mm primary pipes
  • 51mm secondary pipes
  • 57mm main pipes

ACT said that it will supply both trade and retail customers, but qualified its remarks by saying that: "the manifolds will alter the fuelling requirements of cars to which they're fitted. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the correct engine mapping is in place to prevent possible engine damage."

ACT said that it recommends that "as minimum cars are checked for correct running on a rolling road following fitting. Ideally the manifolds should be fitted in conjunction with a live mapping rolling road session."

Performance

ACT said that, on two cars fitted with ACT manifolds (a standard 4.2 and a standard-engined 4.5 with an ACT induction kit, Bosch injectors and re-chip): "we have seen good gains. The 4.5 was taken to Parr Porsche hub dyno for independent back-to-back dyno runs. We saw a peak power increase of 11bhp but, more importantly, more torque throughout the rev range."

ACT said: "It is important to add that the figures quoted are a sample and although we would expect similar gains on other cars please be aware that there would be a variation from car to car."

The company added that, like its other exhaust components, its manifolds are built by JP Exhausts -- and that "it is the customer's responsibility to advise their insurer of any modifications made to their car."

Very nice.

Incidentally, what was the bhp gain on the standard 4.2 that had them fitted? The article only mentions the 4.5

Does this mean that ACT/Austec have now run the hub dyno tests eg
standard 4.5
4.5 plus remap/chip
4.5 plus remap/chip plus induction
4.5 ditto ditto plus injectors
4.5 ditto ditto ditto plus exhausts
and combinations of above?

Purple, We only did comprehensive tests on the 4.5, due to process involved with fitting the manifolds to the 4.2 we can't give before and after figures, i'm happy that it responded very well though.

Gazzab, No not as yet, It was interesting though that the Parr porsche hub dyno corresponds with Austecs Rolling Road dyno, we carried out the manifold tests on both.
