The New World, Terrence Mallick's new film is out in time for Xmas too IIRC. I'm looking forward to that.

Harry Potter, Narnia & King Kong all released within a few weeks of each other.

Has the pre-Christmas period replaced the summer holidays as the time for blockbusters?.

I am looking forward to King Kong most of all, mainly because PJ is directing it.

It looks shockingly bad!!!! I think the Da Vinci Code is the one to look forward too!

Naff

What could be better than a giant ape kicking the cr*p out of some T-Rexes and trashing New York?.

Harry Potter looks good, going to see it with the missus this weekend.
Watched the last one on Sky last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, reminds me of my youth. As a wizard.

No.. the original was good... it was back in the day when special effects were a new thing... This film just tells the same story, but with mouintains and mountains of special effects. A bit like the last star wars movie, where it seemed special effects took priority over the storyline.

I think you should wait and see, PJ has a good track record with bringing deep emotion into these special effects laden blockbusters.

I'm willing to give PJ the benefit of the doubt as he seemed to do a good job with the LOTR. We'll see if it turns out to be another War of the Worlds...

You know what I mean... Special effects were not exactly a prevelent thing. It was still a 'special' thing at the time...

Peter Jackson did a cracking job of LoTR. Think King Kong could be pretty good.

Saw the making of Harry Potter this morning. Looks fantastic.

what you really want to see is THE LIBERTINE! Johnny Depp, sex, debauchery and very good film-making. what more could you ask for?

Nah, it was the CGI that spoiled LOTR. Like it does most things. For example, the surface textures are all wrong and CGI animals don't move like real ones. Nor do CGI waves.

I suspect the original King Kong with cheesy models will still be better. Models are somehow more "honest" than CGI.
