OK peeps, going to SA for Christmas, should I buy a laptop in the UK before I go, or wait to buy in SA?

And If I but in SA any pitfalls to look out for?

I somehow doubt they're cheaper here TBH. I'd buy mine before coming over. Getting one online will almost certainly ber cheaper too. Digital Planet is SA's largest online PC shop, www.digitalplanet.co.za - you could probably get an idea of relative prices from their site...

No. Computer equipment is about 25% more in SA.

Buying a lappy abroad would have to be a lot cheaper for me, to make up for possible warranty issues etc

I'd recommend getting one from www.buyit247.net - their grade 2 list is generally pretty good. Keep an eye out for the business lifebooks like the S7010's etc - nice (and cheap!) laptops.

Nothing to do with them - just use them@work

Assuming you are going through a large enough laptop in the UK get one at Dixons after security. They don't charge VAT. You can ring them up before hand and check that they'll have it in stock.

Anything made in SA is considerably cheaper, anything made over here is considerably dearer.

It's not uncommon for the car to be worth more then the house in SA
