Mrs Beano's been nagging me to get some calendars together.

(I said the result would be full of holes, but she just pointed out that's some thing different for straining your veg.)

Apparently it's that Pagan festival soon where you all have to be nice to somebody's relatives for 24 hours.

Anyway, what's the best calendar solution?

I haven't done one since about 19-blah-blah when you used to go down the craft shop and get the little printed book and stick it on a bit of ribbon - things seem to have come on a bit since then....

Photobox provide such a service - either 1 pic or 12. I have no idea about quality as I haven't tried.

Cheers

If PhotoBox's calendara are like their prints, then quality is excellent - but not cheap. OK for personal use or gift but you couldn't sell them on and make any margin.

I got one of the "old" photobox calendars last year. They're printed exactly the same as the photos (on photo paper). Quality was very good.

They now do an A3 (2xA4) with the join in the middle.

I've used Photobox for calendars for the past few years, just one or two at a time as they are quite expensive but the quality is excellent. The kids like to compile a calendar of themselves for the grandparents at Christmas.

Another thumbs-up for Photobox here. Both their A4 and their A3 calendars are excellent, and they give discounts on bulk orders. I buy calendars from them every year and I've always been impressed with the quality.

Sorry - can't concur on photobox. Done an A4 calender for this year and their quality is awful. It looks like its been printed on a laserjet. Asked them to redo it which they did and exactly the same happened.

Annoying as their individual A4 prints of the same shots are sensational.

This months (Issue 73) Digital Photo magazine has got a load of calender templates on the free CD. Also some basic PS/Elements lessons on B & W.

I've recently been trying to get an A3 calendar done by photobox for a christmas gift. First one came back with vertical banding over half of the pictures (mainly on sections of the picture showing the sky - grey especially). Complained and they sent another re-print which was worse.

I therefore cannot recommend calendars from photobox at all.

Should I try again or ask for my money back?

I agree with the previous comment that they look like they've been printer on a laserjet.

rex has just put together his own photoshop templates for doing calendars - and they are VERY cool.

I'll chase him to post some stuff about it on here.

Also a bit of a thumbs down re photobox calendar - was going to get a few dozen done, tried one first, not good enough quality. Certainly not as good as I can do here with Microsoft Publisher and Epson paper.

..It's just a pain waiting hours for them all to print out then binding them.

A gizmo from Viking.com - makes the holes, then with plastic binders ... um... binds them. A bit like the 'one ring', but plastic and with no magical powers at all.

Have just desingned a calendar as Bee-Jay said. I will try to post a couple of pics here. Not done it for a long time so have forgotten how to do it (isn't it always the way), so have put it up at our web site as a higher res image. Go to www.matabooboo.com and use pistonheads as the password. It was created in photoshop. I can send the templates if anyone is interested. You just have to put the months in and hide the layers if there are 30 or 28 days in the month.

Some Staples stores do the wire binding for just over a pound. Don't go to High Wycombe or Slough though as their machine has broken with no date for fixing it.

A few people starting to ask re templates. Has anyone got some online storage where where I can put them so people can download directly.

Can't do anything till lunchtime as on home computer

I have found a way to upload them as a downloadable .psd file on our website. I will get them done at lunchtime. I will need peoples e-mail address for you to be able to download
