Freezing my nuts off

Please help. My heater system just stopped working for some reason yesterday. I think it's knob 'e' on the dash (top right) you push it and the fan fires up, however not anymore. The second problem is that when its cold out side then no heat comes into the cabin even when this fan was working.

You dont say which griff you have,but the following applies to a 500.It could be the heater control unit(ecu).I recently replaced mine,but didn't need to,so now mines for sale in the classifieds!Its a difficult thing to test,and the easiest way is to swap parts with someone.I wouldn't reccomend buying one until your sure as they cost a small fortune.It could also be the switch on the control panel.The easiest way to prove this would be to swap it with one of the others,as they're all identical.This is assuming you dont have a multimeter to tell you whats happening.

Thanks, yes mine is the 500, and I think it will be the latter issue as it has been intermitant in the past

I went through the same thing myself last week with my Chim.

As I was quoted £151 + VAT for a new unit, I decided to take apart the dash to access the heater control unit and discovered that the connector had broken down and had melted on the top left hand terminal, possibly due to overload or just a bad joint.

A quick look through the RS catalogue and I found the 'AMP' made connector and after about 30 minutes soldering the blower was back up and running, and all for a couple of squid.

Blimey thats cheap.The correct price is the best part of £400!edited to say: i see you have a chim,which is probably a different part.

There is a four way connector that can come adrift, if you pull the side carpet down in the passengers footwell, you will see it. Mine came apart after a bit of "tidying up" ! On my last Griff the FET in the "TVR environment controller" meant no fan and cost 8p to put it right.
