I've just been pondering over dinner tonight just how many hobbies i've picked up then never really got into or kept on. It strikes me that i'm not actually "obsessive" enough about my hobbies, so i normally invest a goodly amount of money and time only to find my interest waining and then resigning the kit to the cupboard/loft! It's bloody irritating tbh as i've wasted quite a lot of money over the years on various fads i've had, and i wish i could be more dedicated. On the other hand i do enjoy being interested in a great range of things, it's a tough call, because basically...

I went to a party on Friday night and know the DJ quite well, i did Music Tech at college so know my way around a mixing desk and after a 5 minute tutorial he let me get on with it. Now i'm trying to convince myself that it's a good idea to spend a few hundered quid on a set of decks and a few hundered more on some vinyl. I like the idea of playing at partys, making some mixes and i can't deny i don't think they'd look great in my room - however; i know the chances are i'll play with them for a month, maybe 2 and then they'll never really get used again.

Do I make the jump, or do i save my (overdraft) money? Decisions decisions...

Cheers,
Rob.

Just seen Airfix's planned releases for '06 (for which read '07) and I imagine you'll be interested in a 1/48 Canberra/B57, or 1/72 Nimrod.

If they're "scratch master" decks i can't imagine it's the same kind of stuff i'd listen to, but cheers for pointing that out...

Cheers,
Rob.

Hobbies I have taken up over the years :
fishing, golf, football, skateboarding, wakeboarding, snooker, darts, rugby ( this has carried on though and turned into a passion ), motorbiking, outdoor survival, climbing, surfing, windsurfing, cycling, running and there are a few more but can't think at the moment.

I am that guy that when everyone goes "lets do X at the weekend" I have the equipment/gear/shoes/right clothing for.

P.S. the Decks that you were taking about are just called scratchmaster ( something to do with the arm ? ) but the music my brother had was mixed, he didn't "scratch" ( I presume that is like the 80's style rap records ? ) if you are interested email me.

Ive always found hobbies to be genuinely pointless as they are used as a means to fill up time. In this case, hobbies are ultimately endless since anything you do can be considered a hobbie. Its all about your passions really and what you look forward to going home and doing after a long days work.

I just wish my hobbies weren't so damned expensive. My top 3 are:

Modifying cars (for perfomance, not that Lax Flower shite)
Mountain Biking
Playing Guitar (electric)

Wouldn't be so bad if I was a beginner and could therefor get away with cheap beginner stuff, but I've been doing it all for years, so my equipment wants are so much higher.

Would love an Engle guitar amp, only about £4000, been pricing up a new bike (Rocky Mountain ETS-X90 custom build) which would be around £3500 and the sky is the limit with the car stuff...

Only 2 main ones:
Driving my Caterham
Running

However, the running is more of an obsession than a hobby. I clock up between 60 and 90 miles a week, so not much time for anything else other than work, eat and sleep

Film. I absolutely love going to the cinama and at one point I believe I was addicted to watching films (if there is such a thing). Within two years of DVDs being released in Britain I had over 500 of them! I spend almost as much time trawling the IMDB for useless film facts as I do wasting time on here.

Staying in a rental cottage (actually a converted chapel!) in the Lakes at the weekend had me playing around on a grand piano. Now I was always a bass guitar dude, but there was something about the sound of the grand (especially with those acoustics!)...

Mind you I don't think any of my housemates were too impressed with either my rendition of Tubular Bells or Bach's Toccata... at 2AM on Sunday, especially as some of them had kids asleep

Mind you, it pales into insignificance alongside the antics of the two guys who decided to play crazy golf. On the snooker table

Too many.

Main ones: Guitar, Track Days and Sports Cars, Photography (beginning). In the past I ran.

I also love films. Just been looking into starting a Home Cinema setup with an LG 50" jobby - we'll see.

The common thread is that all my hobbies seem to be expensive.

4k on an Engl - mate you need to shop around a bit. I had a go on a screamer head & cab the other day & it was only about £1800. Not even a Cornford will set you back that much, though £4k would get you a great wall of Marshalls

Since buying a Victorian house 5 years ago, I've got well into DIY, to the extent that I'm now in my 3rd year of a joinery NVQ at night-college.

It's cost me a fair bit in terms of time and expenditure on tools, but I've been doing a few jobs as an aside to my normal work and, if things continue, it might ultimately turn from a very enjoyable hobby into a business.

Other than that, spending time with Mrs Space, going to the gym and downloading music/filth off the net manages to occupy my time quite nicely.
