Insurance - what are you paying?
Discussion
Guys
I'm finding myself irresistably drawn towards Cerb ownership! I've spent the last fortnight or so revisiting the TVR parts of the site as when I had a Chimaera, I was constantly in 'these parts'.
Been reading lots of good threads about anything and everything. Really good stuff - Cerb ownership has always been outside my limits untl recently but it's like a moth to a flame ...
Have read all about the 3k per annum for maintenance etc but i suppose that depends on how much use the car gets.
Insurance - what would it be likely to cost ... I'm the wrong side of 40, in the sticks, full NCB, no points, garaged etc - haven't a clue what people are paying.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

£3k pa is the amount for 5k miles pa (IMHO).
BUT it isnt exactly proportional - if you do sod all miles then you will probably be ok for £2K - £2.5 K !
gazzab - can I ask what you think this 3k (ish) would consist of covering 5000 miles a year in the average Cerb - I know all of them are different buy that' s only one service surely.

Most cerbs do about 5K pa.
Most owners (I have been a TVR owner for 8 yrs and a cerb owner for 3 or 4 yrs and am on 2nd cerb) reckon on £3K pa. My bills have been far in excess of this amount!! A service = £400 - £800 throuhg indies depending on small or large service. Repairs and fixes etc will eat up the rest.
You could spend less BUT your luck is unlikely to last more than 12 months!

£3k a year =
1 Clutch
2 services (one big, one small),
driveshaft,
starter motor,
new tyres (x4 - to be fair dad flatspotted the fronts big time, backs were just worn down),
air con re-gas,
Trackcar MBE chip (sooo smooth)
3k probably failed to cover the whole lot, thats 12k pa though!
err thats all I remember this year...
And we have the following big bills looming:
Cats (ones on its way out)
Diff (recon or replace)
Brakes (all need a recon)
TO be fair, our car is getting on a bit now, and most of the items that have needed attention recently should see it through another 60k miles (current mileage) - its had some very cheap years (one where it did 14k with laughable ease) - but unfortunately the expensive years, last one and looks like this one too, aren't too well timed. Bit strapped for cash and im absolutely praying Dad doesnt make a silly mistake and consider selling it. Really cant bare to see it leave the family, im desperate to get my hands on it after Dads had his fun.
edit: should point out that it does 10-12k pa, and these consist of a seasons sprinting, day to day commuting and the odd Le Mans trip... its used as its meant to be!!
