Anyone got any indispensable tips for what to ask for Service to check - I am extra concerned as my big fuse went the other day (when I looked there was no trace of one ever being there...but I assume it must have been otherwise I'd have been motionless), and I am concerned it was 'caused' by something.

I am going to ask for tappets, throttle pots and ignition electronics to be looked at closely (not too smooth at low revs).

Should I request any special actions (chassis inspection, wheel alignments/balancing, ECU stuff)?

Thanks all...

From experience, I'd have a new oil pressure spring fitted & ask them to have a look at the valve.

Yep, not sure why this isn't already on the Cerb service list.
I change mine once a year now when I do my own services, and each time I change it I notice its worn a little by shortening compared to a new one and there is a slight jump in oil pressure afterwards.

This little spring does seem to wear rather rapidly

Depends what service was done last time.
A full service is nearly twice the price of a simple service and tappets can add £250.
If you are using an indie with a reasonable hrly rate then great but your list is going to take you over a grand if the rate is £50 or over. That assumes no extras are found.

As long as you are taking it to a reputable place, they should know what to look out for. I tend to just leave it to those in the know, but i do mention any little quirks or issues i might have been experiencing of late.

Then i just go home and pray to the gods in the sky and wait for the phone call to say its all done.

If you are asking for the tp's to be looked at, I guess you are looking for a general tune up.Make sure the garage you use check the throttle linkage and butterfly position as part of the check up.
It seems some do it properly, while others will just adjust the pots on the lap top to what looks right.
Nick.

NOOOO!

Just heard back from Geoff at London TVR...big problems....

Steering rack bits and bobs perished, Wishbones bushes worn through, Rear drive shaft dodgy, Pads, Oil pressure sender, Gear box mountings etc, etc

Basically 6k quote!!!! Not including the Service.

I've got a warrentee...but as we know..the chances of those guys paying up are slim...wear and tear..etc, etc

Needless to say I am gutted...did James Agger cover up things...or are London TVR being extra fastidious??

Rack recon is £150, you do not need a TVR exchange unit.

Go and get the car and drive it to APM in Liphook.
I guarantee your bill will be at least halved! He also does warranty work and is one of the best (or the best IMHO).

If you're in for that much work, get a second opinion. I'd suggest a reputable independent would be a good choice. You should also see what Mr. Agger has to say.

Steve.

Ask them what they charge as an hrly rate.
I guess it is going to be north of £50ph - maybe as high as £70ph? Could even be higher.
APM is less than £40ph.
I am having lots of work done to my cerb currently - I reckon the bill is going to be at least half of what it might have been if I hadnt gone to APM. I also am aboslutely convinced that APMs diagnosis of problems and solutions is spot on and so this means that you dont get the 'ooh it needs a rebuild' (unless it really does).

..... and you've just bought it seems like a lot of work for a car from 'known' good guy (no naming and shaming please). I'd get it checked out elsewhere before committing to any work, as already said Andy at APM is a top cerbie indie.

Further aside, was there not a comment the other day (can't remember which Forum, probably this one) saying how easy Cerbs were on bushes?

This is what scares the sh*t out of me as regards Cerb ownership. 6k? These guys are having a laugh surely. Can't understand why these cars should need new parts this often - gotta be down to the standard of parts fitted ...

I know main dealers charge the earth but come on ... I didn't know they also had big windows too (to see you coming).

Looks like I might have to settle for another Chim ...
