Under bonnet heat shield

Hi

I am replacing the heat shields on the side of the engine bay, the foil looks a bit shabby. I have seen some piccies of stainless steel plates fitted instead of aluminium faced material. Anyone know where to get some?

No, but I would have thought a thin steel sheet offered minimal heat insulation compared to the insulating material with a protective face.

Good point, I suppose it would need an insulating element between it and the fibreglass, but it would be robust when working in the area.

ps, you were tight about the manifold bolt, now fitted. Ta

I think it was stesrg that did the sheet metal heat shields (but he was selling his car so he may not be around here anymore). If you backed them with a suitable insulating material or even put them over the top of the originals I guess they'd work OK. If you want to cut repair sections (easier to do the job with the engine in) then agriemach do adhesive heat reflective mat similar to the original stuff (www.agriemach.co.uk). Otherwise I think the original bits are still availble from TVR - but I don't see how you could do them with the engine/exhaust in place.

You can get the old one out, but not particularly easily. I have some sticky back stuff from Argemech, its a bit thinner than the old, but the same construction. I may use some of the old (under the new) just opposite the manifolds, otherwise it is not doing much anyway.
