Salt on the roads - it's that time of year
Discussion
It's been -5 degrees the last few mornings and Hampshire's roads are well salted. I would not normally want the Griff out on wet salty roads but have no choice at the moment as I am short of my daily wagon. When it comes to trying to get the salt off the underside of the car, how vigorous should I get with the hose and are there any bits to avoid/any tips on the best way to do it/things to watch out for?
I did have the car waxoyled in August - is this enough?
Thanks in anticipation,
Alan

Alan,
Where did you get your Griff waxoyled? I'm thinking of getting my V8S done. Did they do any cleaning or painting first?
With regard to your question, I think that pressure washers or steam cleaners may be a bit to vigorous. I guess you could use a normal garden hose, but it would probably help if you could use a detergent mix in warm water - I wonder if one of those devices used for spraying garden plants could be used?
I suppose it will be the bits of the chassis you can't see which will be at most risk of corrosion, and harder to clean.
Andrew.

Waxoyle was done by David Gerald TVR (in Worcestershire) as part of general haggling over price, but now car in Hampshire but I know you can get it done by almost anyone TVR related, one or two PHers say they do it themselves.
I don't think it needed any remedial work to the chassis as it's a 500LE, 2001 model and well looked after.
I have so far just given the underside a gettle sprinkle with the watering rose on my hose, but don't know if that is adequate or not.
Why has this thread been moved to GG? It is a specific TVR question!

Just be thankful you dont live in Scotland......Bonneville Salt Flats hah !...thats nothing compared to the A1
Big tip for washing salt encrusted metal. DO NOT USE WARM/HOT WATER, it helps the salt attack whatever is attached to. Use cold water liberally (avoiding anything water sensitive like 'lectrics etc. Not sure if soap helps. I would rinse liberally with cold water and reasonable hose pressure.
