Maybe it's Because I'm a Londoner
According to Privilege, London car owners might as well live in Beiruit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a parking offence to park on the kerb (half on-half off)?
Lets see then - either risk losing your wing mirror or get a parking ticket every time you try to avoid the damage....
Retracting the wing mirror makes all of maybe two inches of difference (less on some cars). Sounds like the best solution according to Privilege is to have a car three inches narrower than those of your neighbours...or encourage your neighbours to drive nice big (wide) Mercs so your car can shelter behind them...

umm...... have had two cars stolen and burnt out in the last 5 years
one other broken into and the stereo, CD multichanger and all the wiring nicked
and then last Thursday came out to the car in the morning and someone had nicked all the front indicators (very neat job, no scratches, no snipping of wires etc) and the front badge
not at all happy
The kids round my way go up and down the street trying to 'round house' kick wing mirrors off cars as well as scratch their 'tag' into the paint work.
Yeah it's safe to say that leaving the car in Bagdad with a nuclear bomb factory hanging out the boot would be safer that parking in or around London.
