Supergrass - Moving
Discussion
A question for the PH masses, who surely know more about this band than I do...
The other day I heard some song being played over the closing credits of some movie on TV. "Got a low low feeling around me, and a stone cold feeling inside." I thought the song was rather good. Googling of the lyrics followed by a speculative download confirmed that it was the abovementioned Supergrass track.
Thing is, on playing the whole thing it was extremely disappointing. The chorus was great, but that was the only bit I heard on the TV. The verse is crap - it's completely ruined by being sung in that infuriating style adopted by too many male vocalists, wailing and yelping like a dog having its tail trodden on. So crap, in fact, that I didn't bother to listen to the song all the way through.
So I thought I'd do some asking before I bother to investigate the band further, to see if it's at all worthwhile. Which style is more typical of the band in general? The rocky style of the chorus, or the canine ululation style of the verse?

I always thought that instrumentally and vocally, they were redolent of The Who, especially the bass lines and, as you mentioned, the histrionics of the vocals.
Live they are a hoot because they aren't scared of stretching things out and playing songs at a different tempo than that of the album tracks. If you want PM me for a burn of their best ofs (my best ofs that is!).

Blimey, you must be a young'un. Supergrass were pretty big in the early 90s.
Just rather badly informed... I never listen to the radio and don't watch much TV, in particular I don't watch any of the music programmes. I like bands like Pink Floyd, Barclay James Harvest, Jethro Tull etc. and some of the classic metal, and they don't make radio/TV much these days... It's not unlikely that I've nevertheless managed to hear a few Supergrass numbers, just without knowing what band I was hearing.

Alright is probably more typical of their style, and very different to moving. Also Caught by the Fuzz.
OK, thanks, if these are "typical" I'll be sure to check them out.
