Roadworks - who is in charge of lane closures etc?
Discussion
Hi. Hope someone on here can help me. I currently have to negotiate a set of roadworks where a new shopping centre is being built. The roadworks are on a busy stretch of dual carriageway but, due to the inability of drivers in this
country to use both lanes then merge in turn it takes ages to get through them.
I was hoping to speak to whoever sets up the works and suggest that they alleviate the problem by signing the road to tell drivers to use both lanes and then merge in turn to use all the available road space. Anyone know who I should ask to speak to?
In case it's relevant, the roadworks are in Glasgow, here.
The red shopping basket is the site of the new centre. Access roads are currently being created, including a new slip off the motorway. The problem is heading east along the d/c to the motorway. The clueless wonders all get into 1 lane as they come off the roundabout. In rush hour the queue extends across the roundabout and causes traffic to queue in all 5 roads leading on

I believe Balfour Beaty are doing the new section of the Motorway. The Road Closure will probably be run by either Connect or Amey, I think that section of the M77 is looked after by Connect, but I could be wrong. The Scottish Executive will have overall control, they will have granted the permission for the road to be moved etc. Last time I was on the site one of the Balfour guys told me they were going to be there for nearly a Year! The road moves right, they rebuild the Original, putting in 2 more slips and a wider underpass (the shopping centre site spreads to the other side of the motorway) and then move the road back.
Ah, just read your post properly. Just assumed you were talking about the motorway.
Ok, Barrhead Road will be blocked by either Balfour or Malcolm. I believe Balfour are ONLY dealing with the motorway and Malcolm are dealing with everything else. Could be wrong.
First try Malcolm at the site office, if they aren't dealing with it then it will be Balfour, their office is unmissable.

Thanks. I'll contact them all and see if I can find someone to speak to.
It'd be absolutely fine if the numpties would just use both lanes on the approach to the single lane section of the d/c, but no, they all jump straight into the queue 5 feet after they exit the roundabout. I never used to mind as I just filtered through on the bike and left them all to it, but I'm driving to work in the car now and the pointless sitting in a tailback just to get on the roundabout does my head in! The tailback on the approach was about 400 yards long this evening, with queues on the roundabout preventing any vehicles from joining, even if they weren't heading towards the works in the first place.
