Washing the weather off
Discussion
It comes as no surprise that with this cold weather upon us, that the roads are really mucky with salt...
Fortunately I can get home from work just before it gets dark so I can still see to wash the car. The only thing is that the car is fully warmed up by the time I get back, and when I wash it down I obviously get water into the engine bay, accompanied by the ubiquitous cloud of steam.
I should explain, it’s a Tam, therefore having large vents in the bonnet.
Could I damage the engine by exposing it in this way? Warp the head??

Hiya, you have the same number plate as me, almost!! lol
TBH, if you're using the Tam everyday, I would wait 'till the weekend to give it a good clean, I have learnt from bitter experience that it's simply futile trying to keep my Tam gleaming all the time - I do, if the roads have been gritted badly, hose down the underside of the car and wheel arches, just to remove as much salt as poss, other than that, it's a half day job on a Staurday or Sunday to clean and wax it properly.

May have been a bit of inspiration from you, Chris!
Shame it can't fit a couple of extra 00's in.
Having said that you couldn't see the number plate last time I saw Nicks car.
LOL, is it that dirty?? I too was thinking he was lacking somewhat in the 'o' dept.!!
I would go to a jetwash after work, and just use the jet only on parts of the bodywork, wheels and arches.

I must say I have given up on cleaning other than at weekends! Sat in the garage is one grey and yellow tamora!
I've gone for the weekly two tone colour scheme as well. Mine is a grey to black fade, with some spectacular 'flames' in a muddy brown colour reaching up from the wheel arches.

Anyone know if its a good thing to jetwash under the car on the chassis,if youve had it waxoyled.Ive been wondering if it would remove the waxoyl,or just the salt/muck?If it would remove the waxoyl, then it might be best to leave everthing else on the outside until re-applying waxoyl?

Good point!
I have to admit that the only areas I utilise the full power of the jetwash are the wheels, everything else I jet on low power only - I don't think this would affect the waxoyl, but it's just enough power to wash off the salt/dirt off the underside.
Regarding washing everyday...
I live in an apartment building where you are not allowed to was your cars in or around the building, which means I have to go to my local handwash. Which btw is very good. what this means is that I have to drive to the local handwash, and when it gets there it has just fully warmed up. The car being a sagairs means it has many many bonnet vents. does the water going into the engine bay damage it??? If it does, I am really stuck!! I don't really have any choice...

Some of you clean your cars more than once a week?
You spend 1/2 day cleaning your car?? Blimey, 30mins to an hour for me.
Clean cars are garage queens, dirty cars are used. Nuff said.
Never taken more than 1 hour, so I think thats plenty long enough! Looks like new though once washed!
If washing the car and getting water on the engine is going to damage it - can I suggest you rush outside with an umbrella to cover the engine everytime it rains
I think it sould be fine guys - after all the is water in the engine too .. it will just make plenty of steam on the exhaust.

Are you this nasty and obtuse in the real world, or do you post such negative crap just for effect?
I use my local hand wash - they are very good, they know me and never point the water jet directly at the roof or into the engine vents. It's only a two minute drive so the engine is still cold when I get there but gently warmed up by the time I depart ready for a good CLEAN drive.
Anyway hoping to get my car back later today from London TVR with a new glove box lid! It's the last niggle to be sorted. Here's hoping there will be no more! (who am I kidding?)
