no altenator, how far can I get

altenator died on me. if I fully charge battery overnight how far can I get do you recon I can get in me tuscan 2s (dealer about 25 miles away)

I drove 60 miles in Chimaera with no charging.

(last 5 miles with lights & wipers on)

Dunno if that helps.

Is that a failed alternator on a Tuscan 2?

Depends what happened to the alternator and what conditions you are driving in.

Just disconnect the alternator and keep driving with no lights, fans etc and you have several hours of life. But if the alternator is draining the battery you might only have half an hour.

indeed failed altenator on a tuscan 2

what pisses me off is I only go it back from having it fixed yesterday.

been to seaside to have aircon replaced, they were supposed to look at the altenator at the same time as it was only holding about 12.9v when running, now it's none. I have had this problem for several months finally I end up in a layby on way home

In my experience, it'll get you all the way back from Bordeaux

I think I managed around 50 miles in the Griff when it packed up in france.
When on its final legs the revs were rising and falling with the hazard lights!

If its a new Tuscan can't they get a tow truck to you if its their fault?

isn't the time that you will be able to drive will be the total amount of mAH of the battery which is the amp hours rating of charge. i drove from bristol to swindon when the belt snapped and looked at the battery rating and found i had about 5 minutes left by the time i got to work!

You need to be cautious about doing this. The water pump is often driven off the same belt as the alternator. You can drive quite a long way without the alternator, but you can wreck the engine within minutes if you run the engine without a water pump.

Electric water pump on a speed 6? I thought thats what they had, but can't be sure... Cooling should be ok IF this is the case.

luckily the water pump isn't run off the same belt as the alternator (i wasn't driving my mini at the time which is running both the pump and alternator!)

It is chain driven on a Speed 6 engine see This thread

Could it be possibly the alternator fuse thats has gone.

well so far you can get about 11 miles in 30min in rush hour, running minimal electrics. voltage dropped to 11.2 at end journey so I dont think it will go much further, I must be mad.

people are laughing at my car in carpark which appears to be plugged into the building....
