Three men - contribute nothing, brutally kill an innocent victim, then cost the taxpayer a fortune to keep in prison.

These kind of crimes just beggar belief - the pointlessness of the killing. A decent life extinguished for absolutely no purpose.

I don't fear dying greatly, but I would hate to think of going this way:

What can be done to prevent these kinds of things happening?

Must serve "at least 15 years"

What ever happened to life imprisonment?

I'm not in favour of the death penalty (not worth it if one innocent person is wrongly convicted) but I do believe prisoners should be put to work rather than sit around in cells all day.

Same here. Something demeaning and monotonous, whilst strenuous.

Some American states have the right idea, a chain gang.

Ive always thought the best idea is to move the prisons to secluded coastal areas and for 6 days a week 12 hours a day Break up rocks and build sea defences.
The seventh day is to reflect and look forward to the next 6 days and when the Sea defences are done start again.
Those with minor offences and short terms can clear country roads and storm ditches etc.

Just need to figure out what to do with all the pensioners Tony Blair has had locked up for non-payment of council tax.

Why do you think they harbour such racist views?

No idea. Why is it racist for a white man to refer to "Pakis" when thats how the refer to themselves? It's all a bit confusing for me.

I've been thinking along these lines. If prisons in this country are expensive (which they are) and cost is the main reason why sentences are so short (IMHO) then why not offshore them?

We could set up prisons in Eastern Europe / Africa etc at minimal cost. Things like extensive rehabilitation (where appropriate) or isolation from other prisoners (to stop them learning new 'skills') which would be really expensive here would be available at a fraction of the price.

Plus if they escape they would be unable to re-enter the country!

A good question, but this attck was mostly decided in court by a judge to be non-racist in motivation i.e. they had attacked anyone they saw, any race. (in the article-. They would have attacked a non-white, and I daresay, even an asian person, who dared speak out against them or got in their way.

Thet were thugs, who need to be punished. They were probably shitting themselves after the murder but didn't wanna show it as a group, so they came out with this 'us and them' crap.

I would not want to hijack a thread about a simple person-to-person murder by muscling in with race issues- there are plenty of much more obvious racist murders going on. White to black, black to brown, brown to white etc etc.

We've offshored our call centres, so not unreasonable to do the same with our prisons.
