Chassis Problems!!

My V8S needs some work (for MOT) on one of it's out-riggers and seat belt mount . It will involve raising the body, and will be quite involved?

Having invested a bit of cash sorting a few initial problems and upgrading a few things, my S is going really well and is almost exactly as I want it..........

I now have the dilemma of:

(a) Getting the work done - spending £2k (includes MOT and fitting new shocks/springs/four wheel alignment/chassis repairs and full recoat to whole chassis

or

(b) Selling at a reduced rate for somebody else to do the work (I am currently renovating a house and can't really justify the expenditure on the TVR at the moment).

Do you think somebody would buy a V8S needing chassis work?

What sort of value would you expect to reduce the purchase price as it needs this type work?

Some good news

The body will not need to be removed to do the outrigger or seat belt mount.So the cost is not that bad

Suspension drop bugsy a line,easy to fit yourself,set them up by measuring from flat surface to chassis,Then get it set and aligned professionally

No panic about repainting,just clean and spray lots of waxoyl

You could be nearer to £1k than £2k



P.S if you have to sell get the MOT sorted or you will probably take a massive hit sorted

The company at Milton Keynes or Austec should be able to sort your chassis
Somebody remind me who des the work at Milton Keynes

You may be thinking of Moore Racing, haven't dealt with them myself but I've spoken to Richard a few times and he's a good bloke, people who have dealt with them seem to rate them highly.

I can vouch for Austec on this one - they replaced an outrigger on my S3 earlier in the year and did a very good job - it involved lifting the front of the body (rather than a full body lift) - cutting out the offending the bit and replacing. I can't remember the exact price off the top of my head - but it was around £500 all in if I remember correctly. Give them a call - they should be able to give you a quote.

Moore racing - Richard = top banana

Have seen outrigger work (by spanner man Herb) in progress on griff 4.3 last year, plus finished version. Excellent work - great prices.

I can second this. Just had an outrigger replaced by Austec. As a bonus, the whole car seems better put together now - even the vents work

was in the same boat a few years back but decided to do the work myself with a bit of help from members of the TVR club , contact moore racing and get the essentials (Repairs) done everything can be as you can afford to

the will also spray chassis for you as well

The cost of the Chassis work is approximately £1,400 (local TVR dealer) but does include the following (I think?):

(a) Steam clean to whole chassis/preparation
(b) Disconnect bits and lift body
(c) Cut-out problem area and reweld new tube/plates to areas noted above
(d) Go over whole chassis and strip coating off to bare metal
(e) Re coat whole chassis with epoxy type coating/refix body

I don't really want to sell - I would miss it too much and I think with the hit on price it would not be worthwhile, especially as I have had new stainless steel manifolds fitted, and it is going and sounding better than ever.

I will have a chat with Moore Racing/Austec and see how much cheaper they are.

I guess the timing is not great, but if I do get it all done, I hopefully should have another year of fun and noise

You could always do the chassis prep yourself and save youself an bit of cash. And you don't have to go for the full body off as said above.
