Right, i'm getting perilously close to buying a 993 coupe tip.

Peter Morgan inspecting one tomorrow morning for me.

But I still haven't sorted any insurance quotes for the car if the deal goes through, and I'd quite like to get something lined up.

Does anyone know of a company that let's you put a few cars/bikes etc on the same policy?

I drive a company car most of the time and have done for years. Also we have a family car insured by my wife with me as a named driver. Then I have a separate policy for my motorcycle.

And now I'm seeking another policy for the 993.

The bike hardly gets used, the 993 is likely to be the same (sadly), and even the family car only does about 100 miles per week on the school run. The real mileage gets done on the company vehicle!!!

Yet the insurers are raking it in from all our policies!

A lot of you must be in the same situation so any tips gratefully received.

NU give you a separate policy for each vehicle but give extra discount (10% i think) on each policy for having more than one with them.

Good luck - and let's see pics of the car when (if) you buy it!

One other thought - if you are over 30 you MAY be able to get a classic/limited miles policy on the 993, try footman james.

Over 30?

I'm so over 30 I can't even remember being 30!

In fact I probably wouldn't be spending half my life looking at 993's if it wasn't for my distinct middle-agedness.

Another thing on the insurance is that all my policies run out at different times of course.

As a salesmen once said to me when I was complaining about being faced with no option but to buy his very overpriced product - 'I'm afraid that's where they've got you sir.'

Based on my recent experience, the lowest cost option for your 993 is probably a "Classic" policy. The usual requirements are that it is not your main vehicle, vehicle is garaged and mileage is limited.

Sorry can't help with multiple vehicles on the same policy.

agree classic car policy is the way to go, unless you have a burning need to start accumulating yet more NCBs! PCGB Porsche Post has a very comprehensive selection of insurers advertising, most will give discount for PCGB membership. You should easily get sub-£500 on a limited mileage policy.
If you feel the need to go mainstream, I got 15 quotes (by phone) prior to renewal of my 968cab, 10 were from specialists in PCGB, but the cheapest was Norwich Union and the next cheapest was Tesco.
Lots of past posts on this subject - try the search function form more reading material

Yep. I'm on one of these with my 993. They also took my bike as the primary vehicle.

Speak to Simon Ambler @ AON - he arranged my 993 cover on a restricted mileage poloicy along with another car with mirrored no-claims. In the past I had three cars insured with them. They will also do a "family fleet" policy - one renewal, one total price.

and is sometimes so confused it refuses to give quotes for imported vehicles! Try Privilege. Did a good deal for me this year.

Oh dear, it's not going well trying to find a reasonable insurance quote.

It seems 'classic' policy is out of the question because the car is only 9 years old.

Footman James have quoted me £1,300 for a 4,500 miles pa policy!! He said he can't give me any ncb if I continue to use my company car as my main vehicle! That's ridiculous. I asked how it could make sense that the rate would be cheaper if I used the Porsche everyday rather than if I keep it locked up in my garage and drive a car insured by another firm? He said 'can't help it sir, I know it's sounds stupid but that's the way the system works.'

I'll keep trying but this could seriously affect my decision to buy the car that Peter Morgan is inspecting for me as I key out this message.

What about insuring it in somebody else's name (eg spouse) with you as named driver?

Can't put it in wifes name with me as named driver because that's what we do with the family car.

At the moment I have:

My main car, company vehicle which they insure

Wifes car - insured through Tesco with me as a named driver

My motorcycle - insured in my name

Do any companies really give 'classic car' status to a 9 year old 911? The guy at Footman James says it has to be at least 15 yrs old.

If you are looking for an insurance broker to take into account limited miles, try Neil at Harrington Adams 0207 377 5850. They recognise the fact that if the car is safe and sound in a garage, or even off the road (ie whilst you are at work)then its a lower risk! much better than the "Computer says noooo" mob that you typically find these days. But be specific, tell him if you commute on the train etc

Good luck, tell him Guy recommended him.

Try calling tesco and have this car put in your wife's name as well with you as a named driver.

You will often get the best quote this way.
