Red Hot Exhaust.... Is this normal?
Discussion
Reet, me and a chap down the road have been working on getting an old quad bike running.
Tonight having had the engine running for a few minutes I noticed that the back part of the exhaust system was glowing a cherry red colour, and I mean really glowing.
The down pipes seemed normal enough, and the pipe feeding round the side of the engine, but once you got towards the silencer everything was red hot. Looking into the exhaust from the rear of the bike was more like looking into a firebox of something that Fred Didnah woulda been proud of.
Although the exhaust is well shielded where it passes under the seat, this struck me as being a tad abnormal?
Any ideas?
cheers

Is it 2-stroke? It may be that excess carbon build up is being burnt inside the silencer.
Saying that the only part of the exhaust on my zzr that discolours is the end of the cans!

No, it's a four stroke, last time I saw something glowing this hot it was the turbo in a WRC car!

Could just be crap burning off that's entered the exhaust while she's been stationary. You need to ride the damn thing Ex, not look at it
Indeedy, today should be the day if I can find a spare hour or two!
We even pumped up the tyres the other night, so we are getting close!
