Driving home last night out of Hull city centre on clive sulivan way and on the other side of the road, in the bushes, in the DARK, with all lights off, was a tallivan with the back window open. I could see people 'making progress' on the other side of the dual carriageway on what is a 40MPH road. What rich pickings.

And you're surprised because? Did the van have markings? Only recently they just had plain white ones.....

yet another reason to avoid Hull. Always takes me ages to get out of the place and parking is rubbish. Used to be pleasant years ago

Nasty types. Just imagine their whining sniggering voices as they decide the best hiding place. Like clampers, these people are parasites. ...and crashes increase...

Last time I saw them they were just inside the 40mph limit on the Clive Sullivan heading west opposite the Arco warehouse near Priory Park.

Some old chap (appeared to be in his 80s) had just parked up on the inside lane and appeared to be storming down to have a row with the Scamera operator.

They don't hide in bushes do they? .......Why! only a few weeks ago, a gentleman from the scam.....er, partnership was on Radio 5 refuting such a suggestion from a caller!...

They'll be telling us next that they don't do it for the money!...

my parents live near hull and there is an attitude of fear by most people who drive around there, its just a licence to make money and i would say that driving standards have suffered. i always leave a huge gap in front of me because most people will stamp their brakes on the second they see any vans or trucks parked by the side of the road. the three common places that i see the scamera van (i dont bother going in to hull now) are all on places where its easy to let your speed creep up unless you trail brake. most locals will go down backroads rather than drive on the main roads, i have a really convoluted route that i travel just to avoid the positions of two of these vans. nearly every body i know has now got (in the last two years) 3 points, this isnt just young petrol heads, but old people who feel that they havent done any thing wrong, that feel that they never speed.

as a comparison i live and work in harrogate, there is a far different attitude to driving and everyone seems much more relaxed. the reason? no fixed cameras or scameras. every now and again the police will have the road tax van out near work and recentley two (shock!) proper police men had set a rader trap up on the road from work. its a 30 but very straight and most people will do 40ish, however the lads who work at the dealerships had started treating it as a bit of a drag race from work.

the two police guys had set up a big illuminated sign that showed your speed and where hiding behind a hedge, though to be fair if you didnt notice their arms, the police car and the big sign you deserved to get caught!!!. however they didnt issue any tickets, they just pulled people up and had a chat,

good work fellas!!!

i also got pulled for speeding in harrogate a while ago in my range rover, it was a real crock with a noisey exhaust and a habit of cutting out when running on gas. it was about 12 at night and i was drifting home hoping it wouldnt cut out, when a traffic car started to follow me (which i never noticed becasue the windows where steamed up) the police guy followed me all the way home before getting out of his car and simpley saying 'why have you stopped here the car isnt registered here (it was registerd to my parents house)' i showed him my licence and he then said 'oh and you where going a little fast there, possibly 45, but just drive slower and consider that people walking home may be drunk'

now i may be simplifying the above situations, but only one police forces actions actually earnt my respect

Doesn't anyone else here find that question a little, well, inappropriate?

sorry i didnt word it very well, he asked my why i had stopped, i replied i live here, he then asked why the car wasnt registered to that address.

bit of a hangover dulled my typing.....

he also said that because the range rover was tatty it had attracted his attention. far play i thought, it was a bit of a pikey beast! i swopped it for a non running mini so you can guess the condition! i sold it when the water consumtion out stripped its appite for petrol and gas - this does take some doing!!
