My girlfriend and I have bought her little cousin a Walkman mp3 player for Christmas and I've been handed the task of putting some music on it.

I don't have the first clue what 8 year old lads listen to these days (not helped by the fact that I've hardly met the kid in question), and was hoping that those of you with kids of this age may be able to recommend a few artists/albums?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Go and find a copy of Now 3253 or what ever those compelations are.

That will have the "Hit Parade" of the last few months,

Then mix in something educational like some Led Zep, Tom Waits, S Club 7.........

When I was about 8 I was being brought up on my Dad's prog rock albums. you know, the sort of stuff by bands with names that look like they flicked randomly through a dictionary, featuring keyboard solos with no coherence to them that lasted for the entire journey down to Cornwall.

Probably explains my screwed-up taste in music these days then!

Could be anything from S club to Green Day flick through the radio or some cds or something while he is there and ask him which ones he likes.

Edited to say: oops

Yup, same here, Marillion, Genesis, Floyd, Queen, Yes, Supertramp. Almost exclusively. Except Tangerine Dream. My dad took me to a concert when I was young. Possibly the loudest gig I have EVER been to.

Only the radio mixes unless you want an eight year old who swears like a trooper.

Snap other than McFly he thinks they are rubbish.

Excellent. Thanks for the advice

Apologies for my poorly worded thread starter, but he is definitely a he, and not a she

I'm now off to Borders to fund all those Pop Idol/X Factor/talentless tripe bands I hate
