There are a few golden rules I always use when it comes to brakes.
1. Only ever fit new pads or disks to your car.
2. If you fit new disks then also fit new pads.
3. If you replace somthing on one side, you must replace the other side as well.
Ignore them at your peril!

He ordered new ones but the wrong ones arrived. He is looking for a simple TEMPORARY solution. Most members would agree with your point, a few have paid thousands of pounds for brake upgrades.
