996 in car phone help please.

I've aquired a new SIM for my in car phone but it can't seem to find a network and only offers emegency calls.

Is there something i need to do to enable the SIM-the manual isn't much help as it's in German.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you registered the SIM - and, if it's PAYG, put some credit on?

The SIM was bought today from T-mobile-as far as i know it should be activated-it's not a pay as you go.

Does it work in a normal mobile handset?

That would mean removing it from the credit card size card-i suppose i could re-fit it though.

Hmm dunno if thats wise Hadn't realised it took the old style full size SIM. Why not wait until tomorrow as it always used to take a while for SIMs to be made active.

it only has vodafone or cellnet as options-maybe that's why it can't pick up t-mobile-if anyone has the manual for the 996 sat-nav and knows how to add another provider I'd appreciate it.

my car phone worked ok with a vigin pay as you go sim. No probs at all.

The Porsche PCM1/2 phones are single band, you need a dual-band phone for t-mobile.

I just stuck a Vodaphone PAYG SIM in mine.

Thanks Mart1n it appears you are right-i need either vodafone or cellnet according to Porsche.

o2 pay as you go or standard will work as well. Due to the fact that it only takes the large credit card sized SIM card I suggest you take some painters tape (you now the brown paper stuff) and cover the little hole. Then you can take the small SIM from your mobile and insert it into the gap sticking it onto the surface of the tape. It then slots in nicely and you can take it off the tape again easily and back into your mobile at will.
