Yup, had been fighting with cancer for a long time. Last I heard he'd made a turn for the better. This was a bit of a shock.

Thats bad. I never knew he was that bad. I was expecting him to return in the next few years. I bet this will get little coverage now that the other bloke has passed away too.

True, but those that know their petrol fumes will know.

They will know, they will mourn, they will understand.

So it doesn't matter about the great unwashed - how many Sun readers will get up tomorrow to read about the great George Best (& he was, fair dues) & mourn him although they know nothing of him? (The Diana effect) whereas those who mourn any driver/nav/designer etc generally do so because they know what that individual did for motorsport.

To all those that have left motorsport recently, may the next world be free from traffic wardens & the optimax pumps run free..

i've been watching bbc news 24, and there was no mention of it, so i emailed them. within about 10 minutes they were running the story!

According to the BBC the family are asking for donations to cancer charity instead of flowers and will be setting up a memorial page on www.richard-burns.co.uk/memorials

Is there a way of having a PH collection in Richard's memory ?

I remember at the first Goodwood festival of speed I attended, at the bottom of the hill there was a long line of cars queueing up to turn round in the little turning circle area. Richard Burns was about 8th in the queue and as the cars ahead of him moved fowards he just stayed on the same spot. When it was clear and his turn for a go, he did a full bore standing start, drove into the turning area bit (about 5 metres wide or so) and then did two perfect donuts on the spot before zooming back off in the other directions without ever stopping. It was awesome.

Very sad news.
