Normally RTFM works, but when I took my Griffith into the place that sets up geometry for Kerridges TVR, they recommended much higher pressures - 28 all round I think (SO2's).

Anyone else use pressures other than those in the book?

Read The Fcuking Manual.

Depends.

What you doing with the car?

Shopping?

Racing?

I did manage to (inadvertantly - you'd think I'd be bright enough to read a tyre pressure gauge) run mine at over 30 - felt like driving on marbles.

And one of the most disconcerting things about coming to wide tyres is that disconcerting feeling when negotiating rutted roads and lane 1 on any Mway - I am not sure that pressures can help in those circumstances.

(Edited to say I'd have thought I was bright enough not to write "disconcerting" twice in the same line ....DOH that's three times in the thread me!!!)

Shopping? , thats non of your business !

Racing? , Depends wot mood i'm in !

Ask a simple question for what tyre pressures to use and all i get is look in the fg manual wot manual is that then , because the manual that came with my car can't read the tyre pressures for future produced tyres, the so3's could be a better constructed tyre than the previous fitted tyres re71 or so2's resulting in either lower or higher air pressures obviously you could not of thought of that one. well were not all perfect are we ?.

Mmm yes, victim of PH over-enthusiasm and not reading posts properly. It happens! Practically speaking, couldn't the people who fitted them tell you what pressures to use?

I doubt it. Most of them hardly ever see a TVR, don't know how to jack them up etc.. let alone know the correct tyre pressures....

Even Micheldever jacked mine up by the outriggers, which I wasn't too impressed by...

Closet trainspotter here .... in the absence of any useful advice, why not take it as an opportunity to experiment and see what effect varying the pressure has on handling? Surprised me how much of a difference it can make to the front/rear balance in the corners ... or when you hoof it

Well tread wear is a good test, if it's even you can't be far off. I find the S03s like slightly lower pressure than S02, Yokohamas etc and I'd say 24 psi was about right, but you could try lower pressures too especially this time of year.

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Thanks for all the replies , i'll try them around 24psi firstly and try them out, the reason i wasn't sure about the pressures is because the other tyres were 225/55 16's and the so3's are 225/50 16's.

I'm running big boy's tyres PAS. Griff.

I find the 245 give a lot more grip than the 225s.

245/45/16 rear and 225/50/15 front.

PAS Chimaera 500 '96. Same tyres (& wheels) - though not the same car, coz diff aerodynamics, maybe diff suspension, brakes, chassis, or maybe the same, all depends. Read the threads!

I RTFM and have followed to the PSI when fitting SO3s. i.e. 22 front 24 rear, or 25 & 28 on the track. Seem fine with very even tyre wear. I don't understand the need for extra pressure on the track and what you should do for wet vs dry (can anyone explain?) but the car behaves very predictably on track in the dry. Wet track use is a challenge but I'm not experienced enough to feel the differences that the tyre pressures may have contributed.
