Help: clutch or gear problem

Everything was fine when I set out this morning. Later this afteroon, I noticed a slight judder a few times when I pulled away in 1st. It got worse, and then started to judder/slip when driving normally. Over the course of 20 minutes it got so bad I had to start pulling away in 2nd. Byt the time I got home, even 3rd was juddering.
It feels a bit like the wheels are spinning (which of course they're not) and the problem seems to be aleviated slightly with higher revs.
What the hell's wrong? I'm hoping it's the clutch.
I'm assuming it's also not safe to drive to the garage tomorrow.

Bad luck.....on the plus side at least you can get the LSD fitted now. Mine was £495.
Trouble is your engine will need to come out, you may as well get a new clutch fitted while your at it, and depending on how your diff has failed you may need to get your gearbox refurb. That's only a couple of hundred quid though.

But where did you get your LSD for £495?
The garage has quoted me 5/600 for a standard diff.
I'll double check my invoice when I get home but I'm pretty sure that's how much it was. That's the purchase cost minus VAT and minus fitting cost. To replace Diff, clutch, gearbox was around 20 hours.
Plans fitted mine for me. That's the Quaife ATB diff by the way.

Quick question regarding the LSD.
Is it REALLY worth the extra £600? I don't track my M12 and I've been happy with the performance so far. All in all, this job is already costing a lot of money so I'm eager to save wherever I can. A new clutch seems sensible. But I'm not sure if the LSD is...ostentatious.

If I counted correctly there were three of us with non LSD diffs which had gone in a period of a month. The roads have been wet every time I've driven the car since fitting so I've been pussy footing around so cant notice any difference at the moment.
But given the fragility of the original diff (which is a Mondeo diff at the end of the day) to handle even the standard power output, I would go with the LSD as it clearly a much stronger component. If you get a standard diff fitted it goes again you'll just end with an even bigger final bill.

Just to add a little moew weight to the 'get an LSD' argument. I went through 2 normal Diff's in the first two years of the car's use.
Both of them went in cold wet weather, when one of the wheels spun up on something slippery (man hole covers) and then when the grip returned, trashed the diff.
One thing to bear in mind. The LSD does introduce understear, which can really give you a shock when you first get back in the car. However, once you get used to it, the benefits do out weigh the slight understear.
