fiber smell inside....
Discussion
strange smell are normally related to the heat from the exhaust manifolds to the inner footwell/ transmission tunnel.
this is because the polyester resin softens & gives off fumes at about 80 d c and despite heat shield they can get much hotter, early griffs were very bad , make sure that the silver reflective material is in good condition or even double up.

My 99 Chimaera has just started to give off an antifreeze or brake fluid type smell into the cabin after the cooling fans have been running. It is less pungent if I turn the heater control to cold. Does that sound like a resin smell or do I have a hole in my heater matrix?

No. Resin & antifreeze both have very distinctive smells.
Has it been using coolant? The coolant pipes to the heater matrix run above the battery in the passenger footwell, check them for leaks where they join onto the matrix before you start panicking.
Does it steam up all the time in damp weather with the heater set to 'hot' & the fan on (sure sign of a leaking matrix)?
Hi Leadfoot,
That sounds very plausible. I have power steering and had to put a bit in recently to top up. Presumably I just need to check the hoses or is my pump on the way out?
Have a look at the pipes in & out of the pump (they're on the underside).
Also check that the shaft seal isn't leaking, if it is the rear face of the drive pulley will probably be wet.
Lastly it could be the pump casing that's leaking, this is what went on mine.
You will probably have fluid on the underside of the bonnet in this area.
If there's fluid everywhere use some spray solvent cleaner to get it off, brake cleaner or suchlike, and check again (with the engine cool, the fans blow it all over the shop if they come on).
