MP3 files being cut to make a ring tone

Does anyone know of any software that can cut/edit MP3 files so they then in turn can be copied to a mobile and used as a ring tone? I have stacks of MP3 files, but they are too large to copy to my phone as a ringtone.

Any help appreciated.

What type of phone do you have?
Does it have expandable memory?
Can you re-encode the MP3's at a lower bitrate?

I used to have a program that came with my Creative sound card that could edit music down to a few seconds but not sure if its comercially available, try www.download.com for a sound editor.
If you need to convert MP3 into a midi tone used in most polyphonic phones that a little more difficult.
