My new 944 paranoia: what's that noise?

Quite a loudish electrical-sounding buzz from the back when I turn ignition on - I'm guessing it's the fuel pump. Would that be right, and is it normal / ok?

I need to get to know this car ...

Yep - fuel pump. My S2 makes a huge noise but has been fine over the past year & many miles; my 968 makes no such noise. Not sure that helps you much?!

Yeah, that's a help, cheers! Mine's an S2 as well, didn't really notice the noise on the test drive, only when I started it up yesterday. I'll stop worrying about it now :-)

It might be worth checking the mounting bracket for the pump. The rubber bobbins can age or break. If the pump touches the spare wheel well you wouldn't
belive how much noise it can make.
