..........on the M5 this afternoon. Put my foot down to the floor as I was on a nice dry straight, but christ was I in for a surprise. I got up to about 130 when my speed just keep on increasing, my acc pedal wouldn't come back. In the end I dipped the clutch (engine revving its balls off)and kept pressing the pedal with my foot and thankfully it returned!!!!!!!!! Any ideas??

None that help now, but in future dont put the clutch in, turn the ignition off instead, these cars are fuelled to rev to silly numbers and may not survive long beyond 9krpm

I had this. The screw holding the back of the LH airbox to the manifold was coming undone, and the end of the throttle linkage slid past it when I opened the throttle, but caught on it on the way back, sticking the throttle open.

That would get the heart pumping.

Trouble with turning your engine off is no pas or servo on the brakes which could open a whole different can of worms at that speed.

(PS. EDit your comments quickly about the location. You don't need to be specific. Prying eyes and all that.)

Seriously. Your name, reg plate and location are available along with an unsolicited statement by yourself which appears to implicate yourself in an offence. One of the BiB on the Speed, plod and the law thread was disciplined at work for putting things on PH that they didn't agree with. Big brother may be watching so don't take the risk.

I think you would still have PAS as long as you kept it in gear, but with the throttle wide open you wouldn't have any brake servo (this would be true whatever you do if the throttle is jammed open).

Hi
had this happened to me could be the inner cable getting stuck its because the way its routed through the bulkhead next to the master cylinder it fas a more or less a right angle and wears the inner cable out, mine eventualy snapped on the M25 luckly enough 200 yards before clackets lane services.
it also could be the washer rubbers getting stuck behind the return spring worth a look see.
good luck

This also happened to me, whilst aproaching a sharp bend in 3rd

Turned out to be the inner cable frayed at the accelerator end, and a few days later it snapped!

this has happened when i've been a passenger in a cerb, in a convoy of 5 at 160, 50p,5p my ring was going. never been so scared. we linked it to a missing return spring and some good old oil.

there were issue back in the day with one of TVR's mods on 4.2 or 4.5 can't remember which one that sent the cable through 90 degress, also assisted it getting stuck!

O/T This is verging on paranoia if you don't mind me saying. Yes he has admitted to driving at 150mph on the M5 - his home address is not necessarily near where it happened. He is also correct that on 166 miles of M5 they'd be doing well to make the prosecution stick. I'll also admit to doing this at some time in the past, also on the M5.
There, my name is............

Back on topic, the return spring is a typical TVR lash up, one end on the throttle mechanism and the other through one of the airbox brackets. Stretches/comes off regularly apparently. Russian Roulette time!

Agree also, don't dip the clutch! Switch off ignition. Okay, no servo assistance, but you were on the motorway and not a twisty backroad, so in theory, easier to come to a controlled stop.

But on a dual carriageway or motorway you can usually coast to a halt at the side of the road. Steering's not great without the engine running either. But the biggest problem is that when you hit the button all the electrics go down, so you can't indicate that you're pulling off by using the left indicator. Although hitting the hazards would work.

Restarting the car afterwards is a bit hit 'n' miss too. It's not used to having the ignition shut off with the throttle wide open, and ends up a bit flooded.

Happened to me with a 5 litre Chim given as a loan car. Pedal got stuck in the carpet, certainly a heart stopping moment.

I had this when I first got my one. Peddle stuck in the back of the crumpled up floor mat. Unfortunately I had the rear deflector off behoinfd the bonnet and couldn't find anything so rather than start it and risk blowing it up, I asked the RAC to come to my assistance, the first thing the man did was to look in the footwell at the accelerator.................."Could be this mate?"...........I felt such a plonker!

I'm only trying to do the guy a favour. It is not paranoia. They don't need a video from the M5 to prove the offence. Everything they need is already posted. I'm not going to witter on about it. If people want to risk their liberty then that's up to them.
