On my Golf GTi (sorry!)the cooling fan is wired independently of the ignition circuit, such that it continues running after turning the engine off, until the engine has cooled to a sensible temperature. The Griff fans cut-out with the ignition - surely better for the engine if the fans kept up the cooling for a minute or two? Anyone tried rewiring them, or is this just a sure-fire recipe for a flat battery!

I once heard that TVR don't do this because it is pointless. If you think about it all the fan will do is cool the water in the radiator, as the water pump is not turning the cooler water will not circulate around the block.

Slighty change in subject but still to do with the cooling fans. A couple of weeks ago one of the two cooling fans failed on my 1992 Griffith 4.0lt, so I phoned up my local dealer Henley Heritage to find out the price of a new one. They told me it would be £127.50 plus V.A.T. and they had one in stock. I tought the price was rather steep so I checked TMS's parts website (The TVR part number is K0084) they wanted £115 + V.A.T. which I still though was a bit expensive. On looking closely at the fan I discovered that it is made in Italy by SPAL and the type No. is VA10-AP9/C-25A 12volt and the fan blade is 335mm diameter. So after checking various parts catologues I discovered that Europa Specialist Spares www.europaspares.com are stockists for SPAL fans. I quoted them the type number and they said it was not a fan they stocked but they would phone SPAL to see if they could get one. The following week they phoned me back to say yes they could get one and SPAL said they supplied TVR with that particular fan. The best bit was the price $52.50 + V.A.T. with all the postage and packing costs added it came to £70.50 which is quite a saving over the dealers price. So if anyone out there wants to order a fan from Europa you need to quote there stock number 31052P. I'm not sure if Griff 500's or Chimaera's use this exact same fan, maybe someone out there could let us know so we can all have cheap fans. Justin
