The Darkness. Is it me..........?

Or are they just crap? They do nothing for me! Don't get me wrong, i am a big fan of all things 'rock' and 'heavy' and i think i do have a discerning ear for what is good 'noise' and what is not, but i just cannot stand them! Their new single actually keeps me awake at night for all the wrong reasons!
no its not just you...
they really are shit.
Its just that there is so little decent "rock" music around now, they've got the market to themselves.
I've dug up some old Cult albums recently.(Sonic temple, Ceremony, Love and Electric...(if you've never heard the songs "White" or "soul Asylum" Id recommend them as huge surging rock tracks like nothing else (except Led Zepp of course...)
And the Cult really knew how to rock.

Justin thinks he's god's gift expressed clearly during the last bitchiness over the last Christmas charity song.
The Darkness are nothing but a bunch of wanna be rockers who can't quite cut it IMO.
Justin's high pitch squeal sounds like he's got a Cactus in his Uranus.

Ok. Now they are sh1t. Ironically they started pastiching sell-out hair rawk bands and IMO have sold out themselves.
Just about 2 (?) years ago I was working in London and listened to XFM on the train everyday. They started playing a new release by four blokes from Lowestoft called "Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman". It was no Led Zep, but was a spunky chunky tune with its tongue truly wedged in its cheek. They were called the Darkness.
I saw them a few times at the Barfly and also at the Astoria early on and they were really quite good, although it was obvious they were a pisstake, we were laughing WITH them, not AT them. They did a lot of songs that never made their first album, including a pretty good rock cover of 'Street Spirit' as an encore.
Then, Radio 1 picked them up and the slide started. Headlining Glastonbury, all those teenybopper Radio 1 summer events, the lazy first album and the tragic Xmas single for me led them down the road of turning into the sort of band they were pastiching. No attitude, no humour - their niche isn't that large and they lack the talent to break out of it. I'm really quite surprised they have resurfaced.

I can confirm, that in the world of Kinky - they truly do suck.
Now, some Foo Fighers, RHCP, Offspring, etc, etc, etc .... a different story.
K
i dont think they are all that bad. i listen to the album maybe once or twice a year and its not that bad. there is a bit of enthusiasm there and goes some way to covering up the god awful vocals...
and offspring havent done anything of note since selling their souls to MTV after "Ixnay on the Hombre"
