I ordered a 300 quid kitchen mixer for the missus from Amazon , they sent me a confirmation email about dispatch/delivery date , a week later nothing , I sent them an email , and the reply was , your item has been delivered and signed for last Wednesday at 14:29

It appears the DHL driver or someone faked my signature , and I never received the damn parcel.I wrote so many emails to Amazon who kept confirming that I have signed and received the goods which obviously I did not and totally denied receiving the parcel, but upon my insistence they eventually agreed to gimme a refund .

I went to visit the local DHL office and the nice lady there showed me the signature which looks nothing like mine, I showed her my driver's licence, got the managress out to talk to her who confirmed that the driver might have made a "booboo" by forging my signature, BUT , and it's a big but , Amazon instructs DHL to leave the parcels outside your house if there is nobody home or no neighbour to take the parcel for you

I was like WHAT???? you kiddin me , she said no , she disagrees with the policy but there you are.

Basically if you order a big item off Amazon, and you are not at home , the delivery driver will leave it by your front door , fake your signature, then sombody else will come and nick it!

And that's exactly what happened to me folks , and I would discourage you from ordering anything that does not go through a letter box from these ppl.Ok ignore the last statement.

Better still , you could order a big item , let the driver abondon it by the front door take it in after he's left , then complain a week later to Amazon about the whereabouts of your parcel and get your money back! that'll make them change their stupid policy!

So I call upon the powers of PHers to force Amazon to stop abondoning your parcels outside your house if you're not in.You all know what to do now!

I had one Amazon order went missing, contacted them, and got a repeat order within 3 days.

I had a Play order went missing, and they never managed to acknowledge a single email.

Amazon deliveries have gone downhill (I speak as a long time customer who has ordered hundreds of pounds worth of books, CD's and DVD’s)

Their worst service is if you go for free delivery (an option on orders worth more than £20 I think)

They will just leave it with a neighbour (without telling you by a card, so you need honest neighbours) or just leave it on your doorstep.

But if you tell them you haven't received an order they will resend the order without much fuss so they are good that way. Perhaps it is cheaper for them to have to resend 5% of their orders than to make sure it's delivered properly, I don't know.

and that is the difference between them Play may be cheaper on most orders but I think Amazon has better customer service.

Much depends on the company delivering. My wife has just taken delivery of some stuff (for her father) from a company making equipment for the disabled. The stuff didn't arrive so she phoned the company. The delivery firm had said they had called twice and left a note. That was a lie as she had been in all the time and no note had been left. They sent it a second time, this time the driver threw the package out of the van onto the road, despite the box being labelled "fragile". Fortunately the goods weren't damaged, no thanks to the driver, who got a right earful from the missus.

The last mile is the weakest link.

Interesting couple of solutions where bandied about a year or so ago getting deliverys sent to your local pub (always someone there and a nice excuse for a pint when you pick them up)

Or secure boxes outside the house with lots of one time codes to gain access. When they arrange to deliver you give them an code that unlocks the box once for them to put the package inside then shut the lid and it locks heh presto safe(ish) delivery ready for you to come home to.

I ordered some stuff from them last Christmas and after a while I chased them for delivery.

Was told they had been signed for by 'left in porch'.

I dont have a porch.

Yip, the boss does that too. I've only ever ordered books/dvd/cd/software and every delivery has been through Royal Mail and have been faultless so far. Package is always available for pickup from the local depot next day after ticket found on door mat.

It's not exactly Amazon though is it. You have to blame the Royal Mail.....

Not Amazon, but I was horrified to find once that a large box containing 50+ years of irreplaceable family photos had been left outside by back door. Good job it didn't rain...

is this cos it's been busted by the feds and you'll have to pay import duty (i don't know how play USA works but i have had this when importing some stuff from the US).

..also - i have had 3 things delivered where the postie has signed for it himself! this is fine if it can then be posted through the letterbox - but twice it was left by the front door (which is thankfully on the side and not too visible...) are they allowed to do this..? he obviously isn't bothered cos he has filled his address in on the label..

Not the Feds problem , it's Royal Mail that make you pay duty if the value is over 18 squid.

www.dvdboxoffice.com send any big value DVDs labelled as "sample" or "gift" to avoid paying duty on the said items (mum is the word though!)

To be honest Amazon/ Play aren't the problem, it's the postal services. I've worked for a mail order company in the past and we always had the odd 'courier howler' where they would, for example, leave a mobile phone on the pavement outside someones door in a dodgy area.

I had a package go missing from Amazon and they sent a new one out within a few days, the original package then showed up a few weeks later having been delivered to the wrong address (the printed label had been cut short removing a digit from the house number).

These companies survive on buyer confidence, it's in their interests to get the goods to you hassle-free.

Most of the time I report a delivery missing they resend it and then a while later I get an E-mail saying the original order has
been returned to them.

Where it's been for a month I don't know.
