Series finished last night but have been fascinated with the view of crab fishing in the Barents sea.
These guys work hard in amazing conditions.
Didn't see the programme, but don't they only get two weeks of actual fishing because of quotas/seasons or something of the kind? So it's 50 weeks off, followed by 2 weeks in the sort of conditions that make you wonder if the 50 weeks off is worth it...

They got five days actual fishing for Opilio crab , as you say in conditions which are terrible. One boat sunk, five lives lost, another bloke overboard, so six lost in five days.
It seems this was the last season of a free for all derby system. Five days to ctach as much as you can. From 2006 a quota system for each boat applies, which is intended to reduce the risks which drive people to fish during bad weather.
5 days where they worked 24 hour stretches and a deckhand on the top boat got 27,000 usd. The worst got about 10k usd from memory.
I didn't catch (sorry) the whole series but will watch the repeats.
