I have been up to Silverstone this morning and was running a bit late

Got my foot down coming off the M40 and heading for the Racetrack as I flew up the nice new dual-carriageway slightly in excess of the speed limit and came up a small incline right in front of me was what I thought was a Gatso

Braked hard and noticed that although it looked similar to a Gatso albeit painted blue with a reflective high viz panel it had a single lens pointed facing the oncoming traffic

Any one know what it is?

100 yards up the road I noticed another one on the opposite carriageway pointing at the on-coming traffic.

Should I be worried???

I though those were forward facing digital cameras that didnt flash. Might be wrong though.

Think that sounds like a Truvelo .. works off pads in the road if I remember correctly and think its all infra red so you wouldnt see any flash.. sorry, that may not be what youre wanting to hear.

I think they take a picture of the front of the car so they can recognise the driver. Do some searches on the net I may be wrong

I went through this very camera some time ago, at well over the limit (about double if I remember) and had 2 weeks of hell everytime the postman delivered anything Luckily nothing came, and I've now bought a Geodosey, lesson learnt

I have posted about this before. The original cameras are still at The Green Man pub, but because the new road bypasses the old one you lose your bearings. From Silverstone towards the M40 the road is roughly the same, but coming the other way it is very different, and as you say, you crest a rise, and boom, you're on top of it. The annoying thing is, they are really invalid now because the road has been engineered to be safer. Wonder if they'll remove them?

Tabs - Don't be so silly! Don't you know. SPEED KILLS! Well, Maniacs licence anyway

I wish you the best of luck Maniac. They really threw me the first time I encountered them.

Marcos...

They are certianly forward facing cameras! If you look just before them on the road there will be a little white square in the road and I think that is where you get snapped from. They are all digital and you get no flash warning etc.... I know the exact stretch of road you are on and it is a nightmare, in fact from the M40 to Silverstone is one camera nightmare! Dont' you just love Northamptonshire police!

just have to wait and see, and hope!!!

Welcome to Northamptonshire! We are littered with them. If it's any consolation, Northants are pretty quick getting the letters out, so you should know within a week or two.

More insidious are the "Northants Safety Partnership" mobile speed wagons (Tranny van with a hole cut out of the window to poke the video through).

Ar the A43 cameras at the Green Man, firstly they are run off two wires under the road pretty close to the forward facing camera approx 30 metres

Did you brake hard before ??

They are IR flash so you won't know if it did not like your speed

PS The plod have 14 days for your NIP to arrive
