What is "emo"?

I keep hearing this term when people are talking about music, and I have no idea what it is. Over the past couple of months I've heard people say stuff like "oh yeh, its very emo", but what the hell does "emo" mean/what is it?

So emo=emotional...so why not just say "emotional", why the crappy abbreviation?

I just heard what it was the other day..

Emo = emotional yeah... it's one of the alternative teenager catagories as an alternative to Chav..
I think Goth is the same thing.. or near enough anyway! Instead of Burberry the main feature is dyed black hair (just googled to find that bit)
